I am just a regular person. I go to work; then after work post news bites from all over the web because I know some people (family, friends) just won't pay attention to the news unless it hits them in the head. So, for some, small bites are just enough to stay in any conversation. As for me and my business partner, well, we read and listen to news as much as time permits. We don't want it said that we buried our talents and didn't try to give some knowledge to the world when Allah asks us what we did with it (our talents). As there is a storm coming and we want everyone to save themselves and their families. Praise be to Allah (which equals Praise God)!! I personally like MSNBC (I had my cable cut off for about an hour and I actually think I was going through withdrawals). My business partner watches them all.
Socialism. Odd kind of word for people my age and younger to relate to. I hear those close to retirement and the very old use it a lot. Pat Buchanan, John McCain, Senator Mel Martinez, to name a few. So, I decided to get a few definitions of this odd little word (courtesy of Google Search Engine):
* An economic system in which the basic means of production are primarily owned and controlled collectively, usually by government under some system ...countrystudies.us/united-states/economy-12.htm
* An "economic, social and political doctrine which expresses the struggle for the equal distribution of wealth by eliminating private property and the exploitative ruling class. ...www2.truman.edu/~marc/resources/terms.html
* was much more than a prognosis of capitalism's future. It was also a sparkling defense of capitalism on the grounds that capitalism sparked ...www.econlib.org/library/Enc/bios/Schumpeter.html
* A political philosophy advocating substantial public involvement, through government ownership, in the means of production and distribution…enbv.narod.ru/text/Econom/ib/str/261.html
* Economic system centered on the belief that the means of production (such as land) should be collectively owned and that market exchange should be replaced by collectively controlled distribution based on social needs…www.geocities.com/brianmyhre/3Def.htm
* The view that the government should own and control major industries…www.mcwdn.org/ECONOMICS/EcoGlossary.html
* A political system where the means of production are controlled by the workers and all things are shared evenly. Socialist policies provide for government funding of many basic needs such as food, shelter, and medical care…www.regentsprep.org/Regents/global/vocab/topic.cfm
Wow. So, would that include Social Security; Medicare; Medicaid; the Welfare system; Food Banks; the FREE healthcare that all the members of the Senate and the President gets; THE BAILOUT? Oh, so helping those in our American family isn't such a bad thing after all?!
ASA, Peace.
