Aquatics Operating Engineer

Summary

We are seeking an experienced operations and maintenance professional to help maintain operating systems at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, a premier, multi-programmed competitive and community facing aquatic facilities in the country. 

About the Role: This is a unique opportunity for a building operation professional to use their knowledge and skills in a challenging and meaningful way. This position works closely with the KCAC Operations and Maintenance Supervisor and other Operating Engineers to examine current procedures and practices, identify problems, and use innovative thinking to seek out resources and solutions that make sense for the future. This position will help develop an encompassing and strategic maintenance plan to ensure the building and its assets are appropriately maintained while also ensuring little disruption to scheduled programming and events. In addition to a robust maintenance program, the incumbent will be involved with levy funded Capital Investment Projects and network troubleshooting Additionally, you will have an opportunity to be the driving force behind operating our world class, national events.

About the Team: The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center (WKCAC) maintains one of the most active competition schedules in the country. These all-day competitions include high-profile televised national and international events that have a lasting impact on King County’s image in the region and country.  WKCAC is also open to the public for team training, lap swims, family swims, and swimming lessons. WKCAC also has a banquet hall available for community and county use.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing

  • Troubleshoot and perform major and specialized maintenance and repairs for multiple buildings, multiple bodies of water, HVAC units, filters, pumps, heat exchangers, variable speed drives, whole-building infrastructure. 
  • Build, maintain and repair specialized event systems - including event layout, media displays, sound systems, network communications, program specs, live data feeds - to support the needs of event directors, announcers, officials, major media outlets, major regional and national events. 
  • Perform maintenance, repairs on Swiss Omega timing systems. 
  • Maintain positive working relationships with local and state Health Departments, the City of Federal Way, and all other governing agencies to ensure code compliance.  

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring

  • Journey-level knowledge of maintenance and repair of equipment, including heating and ventilation, pneumatic controls, electrical controls, chillers, boilers, pumps and piping, laboratory ventilation, refrigeration, electricity and HVAC controls.
  • Skill in evaluating and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems.
  • Knowledge of the products, materials, equipment and tools related to the industry.
  • Experience in high-level event production. 
  • Experience working in or around aquatic facilities, maintaining equipment specific to competitive aquatics, and tracking assets in an aquatic facility according to a care plan and lifespan. i.e. springboards and touchpads
  • Knowledge of code compliance regarding local, state and federal laws
  • Experience in problem solving in high stress situations.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Washington State Driver’s License 
  • CFC Certification Federal Class 1 
  • Grade 3 Steam Engineer license (Within 2 years of hire)
  • Certified Pool Operator’s license (Within 1 year of hire)

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:

  • Knowledge of the requirements and rules of aquatic sports, such as, equipment required for events, 
  • Knowledge about how transition a facility to meet the needs of various events and setting up and testing electronic competitive aquatic equipment. 
  • Experience with competitive swim and dive software such as, Swiss Omega Timing.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing electronic facility and emergency systems such as Honeywell Spyder’s, BAC Net Lon Works and Tridium Niagara Framework and Guardian Emergency Systems for security and fire protection.

Working Conditions:

  • Work LocationThe King County Aquatic Center at 650 SW Campus Dr, Federal Way WA 98023.
    • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
    • Union RepresentationThis position is represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 925.
