Lab Technician (Biodiesel) - Deerfield, MO
Lab Technician (Biodiesel) - Deerfield, MO This is a non-exempt level position Job Summary The QC Technician is accountable for ensuring the integrity of our product throughout the manufacturing process. This position will require the ability to utilize standardized techniques and operating procedures in order to conduct and analyze tests on sensitive samples. This position requires complete awareness of and adherence to applicable hazardous chemical safety practices and other process and equipment safety procedures. This position plays in active role in ensuring individual and overall plant compliance with environmental, health and safety policies. Essential Job Functions - Ensure all safety procedures and practices are followed.
- Perform all applicable analytical tests on in-process and finished products in a precise and timely manner.
- Determine and recognize inconsistencies in the data and report to necessary personnel in a timely manner.
- Acquire and handle hazardous samples appropriately.
- Pass all required laboratory training.
- Maintain all laboratory equipment and be able to troubleshoot any problems, taking corrective action when necessary.
- Organize and store all chemical substances, fluids and compressed gases according to safety instructions.
- Keep the lab area and sampling stations clean and organized.
- Record data and results in specified forms with accuracy and responsibility.
- Follow established SOPs accurately and efficiently.
- Work alone and in teams across all departments.
- Communicate with other departments as necessary (in person, radio, email and telephone).
- Willingness to assume additional and new responsibilities.
- Perform routine tasks with minimal supervision.
- Follow-through on commitments made to others.
- Create and maintain a neat, clean and well-organized and professional-looking work area.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions regarding production, operations and environmental, health and safety.
- Perform all duties in manner consistent with environmental, health and safety policies and objectives.
- Provide on-call assistance and tactical guidance for abnormal operations.
- Other responsibilities as needed/directed by manager.
Job Qualifications - Must be able to read/write/speak English, must be able to do basic arithmetic
- Must be able to write clearly
- Must be able to communicate with other employees in a clear and professional manner
- Must be able to work on multiple tasks and remain organized
- Must be able to work on a team
- Must have a willingness to learn
- Exhibit regular and prompt attendance
- Participates actively in training
- Reports to work in a condition to be able to perform all duties
- Practices proper personal hygiene
- Must be self-directed, have a hands-on approach, strong work ethic and be highly motivated.
- High School Diploma or GED required, Associates in an applied science preferred
- Preferred analytical laboratory experience
- Position requires basic computer operation skills, i.e. use of “point and click” programs, MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote), and different software programs for the instruments.
- Understands that accidents are preventable and that safety is everyone’s responsibility
- Commitment to ADM’s goal of achieving a zero injury culture; understand and follow company safety procedures
- Ability to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time while performing job duties.
- Must be capable of working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly (ex. Moving a gas cylinder)
- Must be able to handle dangerous chemicals in a safe manner
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays
