Job Description

The Senior Scientist I will implementand execute novel scientific research and development,independently develop,optimizenew methods and techniques to generate reliable and reproducible datain a timelymanneranddemonstratebroad versatile technicalexpertise.Theywillsupport early phase development of New Chemical Entities (NCEs), particularlysynthetic peptides,in boththepreclinical-and clinical-development spaceand collaborate within the global Analytical R&D organization and with R&D cross-functional partners such as Pre-Clinical Safety (PCS), Process Chemistry, Process Engineering, Drug Product Development (DPD), Quality Assurance (QA),and CMC-RegulatoryAffairs.

This position will focus primarilyon transitioning NCEs from Discovery into Development Sciences and the individual will independentlyserve as an Analytical Research and Development representative in a highly cross-functional team, which includes Discovery, Process Chemistry, Quantitative and Translational ADME Sciences (QTAS), Safety Pharmacology, Pre-Clinical Safety (PCS), and Molecular Profiling and Drug Delivery (MPDD).Candidates should be comfortable discussing organic chemistry topics relevant to analytical chemistry, such as stereoisomers, common functional groups, andpKavalues. Experience withpeptide developmentisrequiredandchromatographic analysis (such as HPLC or GC)and Mass Spectrometryishighlypreferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible forefficientlyleadingand supporting new peptide product development,fromananalytical perspective,while working withcross-functional areasto advance projects through the development pipeline.

  • Support newpeptideproduct development with advancedanalytics to drive the pipeline and impactful research initiatives.

  • Utilize understanding of a range of analytical techniques to conduct research and development studies related tosynthetic-moleculedrug substances, impurities, and impurity profiling.

  • Highly autonomous and productive in performing laboratory researchand/or method development,requiring onlyminimal direction from or interaction with supervisor.

  • Initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program.

  • Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.

  • Process, interpret, and visualize data tofacilitateproject team decisions.

  • Routinelydemonstratescientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities andmaintaina high levelof productivity in the lab.

  • Responsible for method development, testing procedures, and implementation of analytical control strategies to help the advancement of drug discovery candidates.

  • Raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. inChemistry(Analytical/Organic/Medicinal)or Pharmaceutical Sciencestypically with minimum 10 (BS), 8 (MS), or 0 - 2 (Ph.D.) years related industry experience.

  • Strong technical background inpeptide development withexcellent analytical problem-solving skills. Capable of independently developing and troubleshootinganalytical methods.

  • Demonstrated experience with HPLC analysis and method development preferred along withexpertiseand fundamental understanding of spectroscopic techniquesas they relate to peptide development andsmall molecules.

  • Comfortable discussing organic chemistry topics within analytical R&D and with partner functions. Hands-on experience with synthetic organic chemistry preferred.

  • Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented individual able to work in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Experience in the use of computerized data handling systems.

  • High-quality written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with interdisciplinary scientists and engineers.

  • Practical knowledge of organic structure, functional groups, chemistry, and modern spectroscopic techniques as applied to small-molecule analytical analysis.

  • Buildsstrong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside ofteamto enable higher performance.

  • Learnsfast,graspsthe "essence"and can change course quickly whereindicated.

  • Creates a learning environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement.

  • Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation and manages innovation to reality.
