Job Description
The Meruelo Family Center for Career Development ("CCD") prepares students for lifelong career readiness by guiding them to discern, pursue, and achieve career goals that align with their values, interests, and skills. The CCD aspires to unite the Notre Dame community to inspire and prepare every student to pursue a life of impact and purpose. The Assistant Director / Graduate Career Consultant plays a mission-critical role in the CCD. 

The Assistant Director / Graduate Career Consultant  is accountable for ensuring that every graduate student enrolled in Professional Master's Programs affiliated with The Graduate School is actively engaged in career development activities. This includes tracking engagement, strategically partnering with faculty and administrators, creating best-in-class resources, meeting with students, and implementing tailored programs.

The broad portfolio of Professional Master's Programs includes the ESTEEM program, Applied & Computational Math and Statistics (ACMS), the online M.S. in Data Science program, Master of Global Affairs, M.A. in Theology (the Echo program), and M.Ed. (the Alliance for Catholic Education program). 

The Assistant Director / Graduate Career Consultant provides career advising, guidance, and consulting to graduate students in Professional Master's Programs pursuing any career path, including startups, consulting, project management, industry, tech, government, policy, international development, ministry, K-12 or higher education administration, and teaching. This includes supporting job/internship searches; reviewing resumes, CVs, and cover letters; and providing mock interviews. The Assistant Director / Graduate Career Consultant serves as a member of the Center for Career Development team through teamwork and collaboration across all department functional areas of the CCD. Responsibilities include:

CAREER ADVISING AND CONSULTATION - Conducts individual and group student appointments related to all career development topic needs, including career discernment. Advises students on various career paths, skills development, application materials, internship/full-time job search strategies, interview techniques, salary negotiation, etc.

RESOURCE CREATION AND REFINEMENT - Research, develop, and implement best-in-class resources to ensure every graduate student in the Professional Master's Programs is equipped to manage their career development. This includes collaboration with CCD staff, employers, and alumni.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGEMENT - Collaborate with faculty and staff in the Professional Master's Programs to ensure every graduate student is connected to the most appropriate career development resources, whether offered through the Center for Career Development, Professional Master's Programs, the Graduate School, or other campus partners. 

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT - Develops innovative programs to ensure graduate students are provided the best available resources to advance their career development. This includes workshops, guest speakers, networking events, career fair preparation, and more, specifically tailored to students in each program.

SUPPORT OF CENTRALIZED EFFORTS - Participates in regular career advising meetings and large departmental events and initiatives. Covers drop-in and exploding offer appointments as assigned. Participates in departmental programming (career fairs, etc). Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the Center for Career Development, the Division of Student Affairs, the University, students, and other stakeholders. 

SERVE AS A MEMBER OF STUDENT AFFAIRS - Regularly collaborates with other areas within the Division of Student Affairs (Campus Ministry, Residential Life, Sister Thea Bowman Center, Student Development, and Student Health and Wellness), student clubs and organizations, and other University units to enhance the department's work building connections and relationships with students.

 

Qualifications
  • Previous professional/higher ed experience with a preference of 3-4 years
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of the functions of higher education career services
  • Understanding of career development principles
  • Knowledge of related career paths, including startups, consulting, project management, industry, tech, government, policy, international development, ministry, K-12 or higher education administration, and/or teaching
  • Awareness of the process of pursuing advanced degrees
  • Competence in providing advice and guidance to students from varied backgrounds and experience levels
  • Experience with career advising of college students is desirable
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Ability to present information in compelling ways, both in-person and virtually
  • Capability to learn technology quickly
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships
  • Skill to think organizationally, conceptually, and strategically
  • Ability to manage projects and relationships simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Strength to serve as a team player with a positive attitude across multiple departments with distinct responsibilities 
  • Ability to seamlessly pivot from demanding one-on-one work with students to teamwork with your peers on graduate school projects
  • Aptitude to proactively reach out to and build your portfolio of students


Additional Information
Salary: Up to $60,000
