Q&A With Edward C. Jones

(interview me)
Edward C. Jones
Location: Columbus, OH United States
Joined: Jul 18th, 2009
About   (request update)
Three generation college graduate (among black males!). Second generation photographer. Committed to fitness and health promotion to help reverse the scourge of obesity, particularly African-American and Caribbean children & adolescents.
My Interview Question
Who is E.C. Jones?
Current Whereabouts:
Fitness; nutrition - completing dissertation; helping rehabilitate 83 year-old mother from a stroke.
Life & Professional Aspirations:
To teach & promote healthy lifestyles among African Americans (and Americans in general). Take the Obama motto of "Yes, we can" - to addressing self-help when it comes do behavior/lifestyle modification to promote self-health - while still addressing the disparities (such income, education, lack of access to affordable & healthy foods in low-income, black communities - for example) that result in preventable poor health practices & outcomes.
Education   (request update)
Howard University class of 1975
Undergrad Major: Nutrition
Claim To Fame:
1) Conducted the first measurement survey in the U.S. Virgin Islands from 2005-7 to define adolescent obesity as a public health problem (ignored by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention that does not conduct measurement for nutrition surveillance in U.S. territories), particularly among black, low-income public high school students; 2) Was photographer (photo journalist) for project that won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for the Virgin Islands Daily News in 1995.
Most Memorable Moment:
Just interacting and feeding off some of the smartest black students from all over the world. A constant "natural high." Constantly challenged by the complex dilemma faced by black students on social class issues - that tend to be tucked under the rug in terms of appreciating the complexity of it in terms of crafting an identity.
High School: St. Jude in Sumter, SC class of 1971

Activities & Accomplishments:
Led project to help clean up a black cemetery.
Best Memories:
Graduating

I just separately wrote a blog on CNN's web site that addressed the same issue of where the "experts" come from - even black ones - re ignoring HBCU's. You can check it out: http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com ...more

Hello Edward and my heart felt welcome to your blog on this site. I invite you to go to my ONLY In America IV blog and post there what you say about your efforts to bring CNN under control which could mean even less misinformation about BIA in these specials of theirs.Because my blog is (the 4th one about)about how celebrated it is to dumb us down by way of prejudice being so "legal" and so accepted and so much the social norm in this country...Your being on this site is going to help slow this down so that we can take a better look at the true hold on us by newtwoks like CNN as being better than FOX for our people is false and demenaing to powers of thinking...thank you and welcome(smile)
