Q&A With Sonshyne Smith

Why Is Black History Important to you?
"Black history is important to me because it reminds me of where we were, where we are and what we are aspiring to become. I am a firm believer that your past should never have a negative effect on your present life, but the decisions you presently choose to make greatly affects your future. "

Interviewed by Talibah Bakhit 02/16/11

is jesus a blck man >
"Jesus is to you whatever you want him to be. When I look at Jesus I see no color. I see a man who gave up his life that I may have an abundant life. The essence of who he is sustains the color of his skin. "

Interviewed by DAVID JOHNSON 02/10/11

If you were banned from the United States and you have to leave today, what country would you go to live in - and why?
"I would go to Rwanda because my church supports them and I am a volunteer for this ministry. I would then have an opportunity to learn in person rather than across the country. "

Interviewed by Dante Lee 02/09/11

What book have you read that changed your life?
"The bible is the book that has truly changed my life. I was living in the inner city and my household was indulged with drugs, alcohol, violence and lack of parental involvement. I suffered from physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse. When I found Christ, my life was truly saved and changed. It is only because of him and his grace and mercy, that I am here today. I indulged God and chose that regardless of my environment, I was going to make it. I allowed him to carry me and he still carries today. I would also have to say that the Purpose Driven Life is still one of my favorites. "

Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
I am concerned about Black America because we as Black Americans are our own worst enemy. Until we learn how to respect each other and be happy for each other, then we will never accomplish anything. We need to understand that the success of one Black individual helps to pave the way for others. We need to understand who we are as individuals and then we will be able to understand who we are and what we can do as collective individuals. In order for Black America to succeed jealousy, hatred, bigotry, and envy must be removed and replaced with unity. United we stand divided we fall. Let us not fall for anything, but learn to stand for what is right.
