Q&A With Barbara Dixon

What is your divine purpose and how is that reflected in your lifework?
"I write, coach, and teach. I have set a goal to raise $1 million dollars for charities, have 1 million people take the 7 Principles Pledge, and to get the book, 7 Principles For Purpposeful Living: A handbook for Socio-Economic Change into the hand, minds, and hearts of 1 million people. I also have a radio show, Spirit Speaks, and would love to have you on it. "

Interviewed by Dr. Anita Davis-DeFoe 07/28/09

What are your goals?
"My goals are to raise $1 million dollars for charities, have one million people take the 7 Principles Pledge, and get the book, 7 Principles For Purposeful Living: A Handbook for Socio-Economic Change into the hands, hearts and minds of 1 miilion people."

Interviewed by Maria Denette 07/28/09

Do you have a Spiritual life?
"Yes I do. Spirit is my life. It's what I think about, teach about, write about, and listen to in my relaxing moments. I know to Whom I belong."

Interviewed by Vivian Farrar 07/28/09

what do you think about the state of black america
"To quote Dickens, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." I see so many of our people excelling at exceptional levels professionally, spiritually, politically, and intellectually. But I also see some of our people who are not on an upward trajectory are not simply treading water, but are sinking into unprecedented lows. This is our challenge as a people. We have to have the resolve to take others with us or at the very least, still consider everyone as our bothers and sisters. I love being in community with all the people on this site, but we need not forget our other sisters and brothers, and engage in our own neighborhoods and the cities in which we live. "

Interviewed by marcella smith 10/22/08

Do you believe there should be another Civil Rights Movement?
"I believe that there should be a unity and enlightenment movement. The Civil Right Movement has been instrumental in the progress that has been made with the changes in the laws, but most important has been the changes in attitudes, for many. Given that freedom is slipping away for most people, a unity and enlightenment movement might be the key. The current economic problems are showing, even white folks, how little freedom they have. They have been under the illusion that they were free, but the truth of the matter is that there is a very small group of people who control what people think, what they buy, and how much money they make. I think enlightenment is available for all people. It really is time to wake-up! Obama's message is being so widely accepted because the intelligent fish recognize that they are wet. Ignorant people simply want to divide and hate. Thank God that number is shrinking, but not fast enough."

Interviewed by Angela Hughes 10/15/08

What are you willing to bring to the table of unity and visionary growth?
"I wrote a book, 7 Principles For Purposeful Living, based on the Nguzo Saba Principles of Kwanzaa. The first principle is unity. I wrote it for all people because principles are universal, but I am for our people raising their consciousness and showing-up as the leaders we were meant to be."

Interviewed by This is Bren 10/07/08

What are your thoughts on the differences between political parties?
"I think that some of the Republican party's ideas are very sound, but are for a country that we have not matured into being yet. I believe in many of their values, but where I think I differ the most from the majority of Republicans is that I don't think everyone should believe what I believe. Of, course that idea has gotten me in hot water with many Christians, too. In a perfect world everyone would "act right." They would not have sex before marriage, you could trust business to not be greedy, and people would be hired or fired on their merit. But this is not a perfect world. Now the Democratic has the tendency to have ideas for dealing with things the way they are. They believe that you feed people who are don't have food and some want to help people to become independent. The unintended consequences of their policies has been the fostering of government dependence. In their perfect world, people would get fed, get educated, and contribute in the perfect world of the Republicans. I guess that's why I vote Democratic! "

Interviewed by Shannon Tomlinson 09/27/08

What makes your inner beauty shine most?
"My relationship with God. That's the being part of life, the doing part is writing and leading groups, I just love it. There is no better joy than to see the light go on in others from a new awareness. It jazzes me!"

Interviewed by Christopher Donshale Sims 09/27/08

What book have you read that changed your life?
"I wrote a book that changed my life, as a matter of fact, 2 of them. I am an avid reader and have been for my entire life. The books that I have read that changed my life the most are The Bible, A Course in Miracles, and anything by Joel Goldsmith. But, let's get back to my books and why they changed my life. In the interest of keeping it short, I will say that my books, Opening to God as Source and 7 Principles for Purposeful Living, caused me to see all the places where I am not totally living my beliefs. I have done a lot of work, study, and meditation, but writing these books and putting them out for others to read has been the catalyst for some fine-tuning. "

Interviewed by Pam Perry 09/18/08

How can we help each other?
"Hi Lettie, How are you? I am grateful for you letting me know about this site. I have been busy rebuilding my web site, check it out and let me know what you think, it is www.mindfulresolutions.net. I am in pretty good shape right now. What can I do for you? I would be happy to promote some of your ventures on my site."

My BlackInAmerica.com Profile
Why Are You Concerned About Black America:
My concern is that we begin to empower ourselves in spiritual, political, and economic ways. I believe that we need to think out of the box, and succeed without asking permission from others. We have the economic power, the numbers, and I hope, the will to rise. This is our moment. This is our time. The paradigm for business is changing and in this choas, we can rise. We must as ourselves new questions, expand our interests, and create something new. It says in the Bible that the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the righteous. How do we become the righteous? We start to take responsibility for our lives by seeking the genius within us. Our Spirit is that of greatness. We were made in the image and likeness of God, thus we must be aware and smart about what image we are projecting. I am concerned with how we see ourselves and how we project our own images. We have a responsibility to our chidren and grandchildren to stop indulging in foolishness. I love fun, joy, and peace, do'nt get me wrong, but much of what we see about ourselves is not funny, it's self hatred. Granted, it is not entirely our fault, in fact it was their plan, but we have to discipline ourselves to, just say no to anything that degrades us. Join us at 7 Principles and help uplift, educate, emancipate and prosper! http://www.7principles.ning.com We can stop watch the filth of Jerry Springer-type shows. We can stop buying music that is degrading on so many levels. We can honor education, human dignity, and our elders. We can stop making excuses for bad behavior. Yes there are contributing factors, the list is long, but we must heal our own communities. www.mindfulresolutions.net

Correction: What does the word 'irresponsible' mean to the woman a man concerns hiself for and so forth...
Tagged by Euroclydon D. on 10/22/2008
Barbara, what is it to direct one's comments? What is a man chosen to speak for a woman? How is a man responsible to manage? Is there anything in giving oneself to a man? In reference to these questions does the word 'irresponsible' mean to the woman a man concerns himself for? The man a woman concerns herself for? Thx. Euroclydon.

Hi Barbara thanks for the invite. I agree with you 100% that we are made in the image and likeness of God, but you've heard of the old saying. You are what you eat. In others words we can't display the image of something that we don't know anything about. If we are to know and be able to project the image of God than we have to get to know who he is, what he's about, and what he can do in our lives. In other words seek his face and not his hand. Our faith never exceeds our knowledge of his word (The Bible) So we have to feed ourselves his word. That is the only way we can get to know and a personal relationship with him and just like any kid that has a good father, we would want to be just like him. Which ever part of you that you feed the most will be the stronger part of you. Feed your flesh wth negativity, degarding music, and any other things that are contrary to his word it will be the strongest. Feed your spirit with the word of God it will be the strongest. There would be nothing in this world impossible for you to overcome or accomplish, because with God all things are possible.
