Can you feel the energy in the air?
Can you feel the brotherly love in the air?
I've been noticing that we seem kinder to each other and that 'knowing' smile is electrifying. We goin' do it, y'all, we goin' do it! Can you feel it?
I've been thinking about my great-grandma's house. I used to visit during summer vacations. She lived in the deep, rural South. I remember the front room so vividly even today. It was a pretty cerelean blue with the door frames painted black. She had a piano in one corner and a country-style sofa on the opposite wall. Over the sofa hung three pictures: Jesus, John F. Kennedy, Jr., and Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
It would be years into my adulthood and long afer her transition, that I came to understand and apprectiate the significance of those pictures. Finally grapsing the meaning of just how they were arranged with Jesus at the top and Dr. King and John F. Kennedy, Jr. placed side-by-side under Jesus made for a powerful "ah-ha" moment! She illustrated that Jesus was the at the head and everyone was "equal" under Him. Did your grandmother or greatgrandmother have those famous pictures, too? We laughed, didn't we, but we get it now, don't we?
I never believed I would live to see this day in my lifetime. I prayed for Obama's grandmother would live to witness this Election Day. I know the bubbling joy in her heart gave her so much peace. How I pray Obama finds comfort and assurance that God makes no mistakes. There was a purpose for us all in each event of this historic time.
Senator Obama's grandmother must have laid the seed that he was equal and, therefore, capable of pursuing the highest office in America. Because of her, we can rightly and believably tell our children, "You work hard and YOU can become the President of America!" Because of her, we see how sistahs of any color did hold up the family with strong virtues, morals, aspirations, etc. I understand in so many new ways why mothers and grandmothers and legacies are sooo important to our future. Thus, we must, must reach a child who holds that key to open doors for us all tomorow!
What will Republicans do in their own families and circles when their children and grandchildren watch a black man darting all around the world representing America and having the capablility and POWER to interrupt "regularly-scheduled" programs to deliver the State of the Union Address, etc.? How will they explain Affirmative Action and Civil Rights and Slavery now? Shame on you America for your past, but we forgive you and we stay united to clean up that Bush mess!! Together, we represent God and His Kingdom!
"A Change Goin' Come" by Sam Cooke
I was born by the river, in a little tent
Oh, just like a river, I've been runnin' every since
It's been a long time comin', but I know a change goin' come
(Oh, yes it will)
It's been too hard living, and I'm afraid to die
'Cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky
It's been a long time comin', but I know a change goin' come
(Oh, yes it will)
I go to the movies, and I go down-town
but all I can hear is somebody keep tellin' me, "Oh, boy, don't keep hangin' around"
It's been a long time and I know a change goin' come
(Oh, yes it will)
Then I go to my brother, I tell him, I say, "Brother, help me pl-ease."
But he winds up knocking me, he knocks me back down on my knees
There was times that I thought I couldn't last a long, long time
I know I'm able to carry on
It's been a long time comin', but I know a change goin' come
(Oh, yes it will)
Then I go to my brother, I say, "Brother, help me please."
But he winds up, knocking me, back down on my knees
There was times that I thought I could not last at all
I know I'm able to carry one
The time has come for us to raise a brother up by voting on Tuesday! We ain't "knocking" him down! Nevermind the long lines and don't forget your "electric" smiles!;)-
So, what will I be doing Tuesday night to celebrate this historic even? Well, I will be at the Reginald F. Lewis, Jr. African-American History Museum honoring our ancestors and forefathers who shed blood for this change to come. I will be there for my great-grandmother and Senator Obama's grandmother. I will be praying (and crying) and smiling from ear-to-ear. Then I am going to write a letter to my granddaughter and grandson about living through the midnight hours when change came.
What will you be doing?????? Please share...........
