More Discipline, More Success/The New Wisdom in Wealth and Health Workshops by Esther (390 hits)

When we hear the word" discipline," we may think about being scolded by our parents or teachers. Or we may think about the military.

Discipline certainly doesn't sound like much fun, and definitely carries a some what "negative' overtone.

Yet, those who succeed, learn and grow, however, see discipline quite differently.

They recognize that discipline is truly an ally (friend)…a vehicle that allows us to achieve the results we want to attain.

Looking closer at the meaning of the word.

Discipline = training of the mind, or body, or the moral faculties; self-control;

=Training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement

=Control behavior resulting from disciplinary training, self- control

****THE MORE DISCIPLINE, MORE SUCCESS

Discipline is really about forming and sticking with certain beneficial habits or routines, while curtailing those actions that are inappropriate or might ill-serve us.

We really are all creatures of habit.

Everyday we are training our minds and bodies to get certain results. We may not like the results we are getting, but we've developed a training program to produce those results.

It's the habits we follow day in and day out dictate the success we achieve, the way we relate to others, the state of our health, and many other conditions.

How can we use this powerful tool, fruit of the spirit to our advantage?

* Discipline produces positive results.
1. People want to save money, lose weight, body build, and if they do certain things regularly. This is in the absence of a medical condition, of course.

If we put in the effort, we will produce the positive result we're looking for. It may take us longer or shorter than other people, but we'll get there if we keep at it.

*Discipline teaches patience and perseverance

1. If we are out of shape and begin a walking regimen, it may only be a half-mile the first day. The second day a half-mile and a block. The third day a half-mile and two blocks. The point is, we are making progress each day. We learning that most goals take time, not forever but some time. We are learning that we can't always have the quick fix. Disciplined activity teaches us that "slow and steady" wins the race.

*Discipline is " contagious' and builds momentum

1. Once we see how it works, it catches on in another area in our lives.

*Discipline enhances self-esteem

1. We start to feel better about ourselves. We project confidence. We look better, and so on.

Discipline gets results but it is not always fun. Let's try not to see discipline as a chore, but as one writer said, " a kind of order that sets me free."

Let's pray: Father in heaven,thank you.
