Hard Economic Times: Can Blacks Survive without $$ (316 hits)

Indeed, we are living in very hard economic times. Since I have been living and aware of maintaining economically, I have not seen it this bad. It is even worse than the days of Reagonomics.

We are struggling, starving and stealing like never before. We cannot hustle, if that is what we choose to do, because even drugs are scarce out here in the streets.

On the minds of many of us, is "What are going to do?!"

"How will I survive??"

"What about next week, how will I make it until then??"

Can we survive without less and less money? Even Barack Obama said that times may get rougher before they get better for America.

I have learned that couples are fighting one another because of there is less money in their pockets. This is drastic when loving couples fight and argue about finances. It is telling of the way we look at money, and how we feel we need it so bad to survive.

Consider me crazy, but I do not believe we will die if we don't have money. The world is not going to end. Am I crazy for saying this?

We adapt to hard times. We become more resourceful and creative when money and the like are scarce. We will not become extinct when money is low. I wonder how many of us here agree with me...

How are you surviving? Are you scared? Are you angry? Are you fighting with your mate because money is low in the household?

Indeed Irma and Katherine, you both hit it on the head: the things we need most are free. We should keep our minds and eyes on this. We will be better off in the long run.

Hello, Chris:

Listen to my friend, Irma Robinson. Tightening our belts won't kill us, in fact, it may save the Black Community. Too many young people are unaccustomed to being creative with providing for their needs. They let their wants totally take them to places that they should avoid. More mature individuals in their 50's and older know how to be "creative" because they had to do without. Becoming more knowledgeable and self-sufficient never hurt anyone. We Black folks know how to take an lemon and turn it into lemonade. It's what we do best!!!

Hi Christoper, here is an example of how with age comes wisdom..."The greater the desaster, the better the new improvered social order ends up being". This happens every time.

Saving the planet is now going to be on full force...we will be going green...sooner than later.
More people will now grow their own foods. Less emergancy room visits when we eat our own SAFE foods we produce our selves for our own family.
Herbs being used as tea to fight a cold, less money needed when you do not need to go to a doctor's office.
Family and friends become close all over again in times like this. That 16 year old single mother needs to be home still being raised by her parents and not in an apartment paid by the welfare office!!!

We are going backwards in time and this is a good things.Family having time to be with family, sitting, talking, planning how to join together in this single effort to save the whole family and extended family sitting around the dinner tabel. Just sitting together telling storys or just getting together means so much. And none of this takes money at all. It takes "UNCONDITIONAL LOVE"!

Am I right my sisters and brother Chris...(smile)

I am better off than most people. I live out of the city limits where each year I grow a vegetable and flower garden. WE raise our meat and I have two hens and a rooster. We have a :English and Black walnut trees, an:red and green apple, 2 pears, Parmagranate, and four plum trees. Almost forgot about five different types of grapes and strawberrys.

My neighbors and friends trade with each other for what we want bu do not have growing on our land. It is a lot of fun and a great way to stay in touch or excuses to get together fro a yard party from time to time.

No money is exchanged, just barder and lots of fun. WE help buther each other's meats as was done when I was a child. We can, dry foods, salt and freeze our meat and vegs. This old art of learning how to survive will be coming back all over America again as it was 50-60 years ago. so do not worry too much Chris as this art of survival has not been lost. O.K Fishing and hunting will be very changed though as there is so much less woods today than when I was young.
