The Electoral College for all 50 states and DC, gathered to cast the official votes that would officially make PE Barack Obama our next president. In this historic election, where more votes were cast in this presidential election than any other in history, we need to be aware of a few things. For instance, unlike most elections, the winner of the popular vote doesn't automatically win the presidency, with the most recent example being last year when Al Gore, who won by over 500,000 votes, lost to Bush due to the Supreme Courts decision to stop the Florida recount. At that time, Bush was ahead by a little over 500 votes. It was interesting to note that several of the justices were appointed by both Bush administrations (father and son) and brother Jeb Bush was the governor of Florida. Another interesting thing to note is that, although many states mandate it, the electoral college members don't necessarily have to vote with their state.
This brings up an interesting question, if this country is about the people and each vote matters, why then can the electoral college basically dismiss the will of the people? Now there have been many attempts to change this, but nothing has been accomplished. As you know, there have been more attempts to overturn these election results than any other time in history. They have even tried linking him to the crooked governor of Illinois as well as Jesse Jackson, Jr. In each case, they have failed, but they still keep trying. I have difficulty understanding (not really) why there are those who are fighting to stand in the way of the idea that 'by the people, for the people' should be just that. The next thing you know, they will be using IQ as an issue.
We now have to wait for Congress to officially proclaim PE Obama the president. Who knows what idiocy will happen between now and January 8. Only time will tell.
