Despite the big push, despite the "celebrity" status, the threats from white women against President -Elect Obama she wasn't able to clinch the nomination. This Ap story, tells us that Bill was forced to disclose his contributors giving us a window into just what the former President has been up to since his tenure ended. See below:
"The records account for at least $492 million in contributions to the William J. Clinton Foundation, a nonprofit created by the former president to finance his library in Little Rock, Ark., and charitable efforts in dozens of countries to reduce poverty and treat AIDS. President-elect Barack Obama made Hillary Clinton's nomination as secretary of state contingent on her husband revealing the foundation's contributors, to address questions about potential conflicts of interest."
Slick Willy, managed to avoid disclosing anything more than names (3,000) but 205,000 donors, total, and would not disclose countries, though he was forced to, because it would have been discovered anyway. Despite that attempt, it is known that Indians (called Asians) and Saudis were big contributors.
Now I understand his anger, this had to hurt his ego, white , rich and the former President backing his wife, and assuming that all that money and contacts would yield a guaranteed nomination. But politics make strange bedfellows.. your friend today is your adversary tomorrow.
The opportunity to make even more money with Obama's Presidency seemed to be obvious to the donors. He still has a foot in the door that he will have to resign himself to as his wife cavorts the world as Secretary of State if she is ratified by the Senate.
I am not one of her supporters, I am aware that there are hundreds if not thousands of women who hold more solid credentials than Hillary Clinton, and his team could have certainly vetted one.
But , Obama is smart in keeping his enemy real close, don't let her smile fool you.
