Black/Hispanic Relations - We interview Student Min. Abel Muhammad (1463 hits)

“O mankind, surely We have created you from a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you may know each other...” —Holy Qur’an 49:13

Knowledge for LIFE will have the honor of interviewing Student Minister Abel Muhammad on the subject of Black/Latino Relations

Minister Abel Muhammad, Latino Representative for the Honorable Minister
Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam

Born December 13th, 1974 in Chicago, IL of Mexican parents from Queretaro, Mexico, Minister Abel Muhammad is a true son of the Latino immigrant experience. While attending Whitney Young High School, Minister Abel was first introduced to the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad under the guidance of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. From that moment on he intensely researched the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad to see where the Latino community fit in its message, carrying the principles learned into his activist work.

After much study, he became a registered member of the Nation of Islam in 1998 where he quickly rose through the ranks as a drill team member, lieutenant, and eventually joined the ministry class at Mosque Maryam, the Nation’s flagship mosque. It is there where he showed his gift of being able to address both Black and Latino communities, forging unity between the two.

Minister Abel has a unique insight into the issues of the Latino community, having served as director of Centro Sin Fronteras Immigrant Legal Assistance program, working for the Puerto Rican Federal Affairs Administration’s voter education campaigns, and traveling to Cuba in 1995 with Rev. Lucius Walker and Pastors for Peace.

He has spoken at churches, mosques, universities, and numerous panels about the need for the unity of oppressed people and the demand for social justice. Coordinating Latino outreach, Minister Abel helped organize Latino participation in the Millions More Movement in 2005. Most notably, he has been on the frontlines as a spiritual advisor in the case of Elvira Arellano fighting against immigration laws that destroy families.

Minister Abel Muhammad currently serves as Latino Representative for the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam based at Mosque Maryam, in Chicago, Illinois.
