
For every one dollar earned by a man,the average woman receives only 77 cents. Closing the gender gap would benefit the economy by an estimated $319 -billion dollar gain.
He would provide.
* A new " Making Work Pay" tax cut of up to $500 per person , or $1,000 per family to 71 million working women; expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to benefit at leaat 5 million working women, extend child care breaks to 7.5 million additional working women, and provide seven days of paid sick leave to 22 million working women who do not have this basic protection.
* Sign into law the Fair Pay Restoration Act, legislation that Obama co-introduced to overturn last year's Supreme Court decision tht made it harder for women to file pay-discrimination claims after they become victims of discriminatory compensation.
* Increase the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour and index it to inflation, a policy that will disproportionately benefit women.
* Give a hand up to women-owned smalll businesses by supporting their efforts to obtain capital, fighting discrimination in lending and working to increase the percentage of women - owned businesses receiving federal contracts.
