Turning networking opportunities into steps towards goals. (1132 hits)

Honoring Martin Luther King and his vision...a marvelous work and wonder! He has got to be smiling big time--

I as many others have not been on the networks much because we are busy making our own visions come true. No one can really tell anyone else how to implement, decide, prioritize or design their goals!!

Sure there are guideposts, but that's all they are, a reminder of where we are going. I had been moved to blog on breaking down the goals into four quadrants, either by achieving in each 3 month period the checklisted items, or scrapping those which are not viable and refresing the goals in April,July,October and on to starting or did we ever consider continuing when 2010 arrives, why not? We may need more time or if it's an on going goal..like being positive or seeking spiritual wisdom or any of the other life virtues that we aspire to master.

What no one mentions is the dreams we have had since childhood. Though do we still remember them? perhaps we have moved them to the "winter storage of our reality."

Some visions are so rooted that every once in while we lament what we "could, should have done." Who is stopping you from taking them out of "mental storage"? We are still in January..still time to reflect, plan and reconsider.

When I was a teenager, my mom casually said one day "why don't you get into politics"? I had no idea how to proceed on that august question. But it remained with me, buried in my mental storage bin . Sometimes our destiny clashes with our perceptions wants or desires. I wanted to be an anthropologist since I was a child and that's what I did. Fait Accompli.

In one of my many forays- I ended up in Las Vegas, I somehow became the "Hispanic activist." I got to know all the movers and shakers of that time period--and most importantly they came to know and respect my abilities. One thing led to another, I became the "go to "person in the Community. All the while I was rearing my children, homeschooling, working jobs of my choosing ..getting fired..yeah well ..I am a free spirit--lol--ended up meeting Ross Perot--who held my hand a wee bit too long--refused to vote for Clinton, represented the Governor as a campaign volunteer, and so on--including being appointed to the Las Vegas Valley Water Commission--did I know about water and aquifers? nope--but I learned like Sarah Palin :The Quick Study''..and where was I going with all that background??? I had no particular place in mind..always preferring to factor Anthropology in there some kind of way.

Networking--while working as a volunteer, on my jobs, with friends. 15 years later, because our time and destiny's may not be in sync we Christians know God may be late but He is always on time-- some man named Barack Obama appeared on the scene.

I am no longer in the same geographical area (stay with me) I moved on blithely and without any warning was offered a position as an Adjunct Professor in Anthropology , at one of my old Alma Maters!! right after 9/11--after some hesitation--for no reason other than my mantra had been for 30 years "I don't want to be a professor in a University, or a Curator in a Museum! a co-worker said " walk through your fear" well--I wasn't afraid or was I? but I took her on the challenge and the rest in history-- We now know the Universe doesn't distinguish from what you want or what you don't want--it focuses on the goal, I said I didn't want to be a "university professor" and there it was served on a platter-walked up to me one day in the person of people I have favor with(Jewish men) and he offered it-he did the hirin g.

I went on to teach--like I had been there for 30 years--how? because I kept reading up on my profession-- since it was a mission and an aspiration not a job per se.

Definitely not thinking about politics. But as I joined the Campaign--I noticed how organized it was..grassroots..hmm where did I learn about that? at the Republican
grassroots training in Las Vegas-how? I had placed no barriers around me.

Then they had these Obama boot camps..more training - more learning--meeting MOTIVATED--people --fired up !! from all walks of life in every profession, of different cultures. I knew instictively that I was in a powerful paradigm changing movement--and it is at one of these camps that I met the lady who is now running for Councilwoman, I am her Campaign Manager--I brought in another person who was an Obama volunteer, that I met while campaigning for Obama in Bristol, Pennsylvania--this is a paid position--Everything I have learned so far I will use--but it didn't stop there--I still had to attend Candidate's training sessions (free in NYC), more grassroots training (free) now the possibilities are endless--I am looking forward to this challenge-- looking to have my Candidate elected--to all the perks, power and connections that will surround me.

Think about what you think you don't want--(are you only saying that because there is a fear factor? )which may be what's in your future..and because I had individualized my goals I made room for this new challenge..I am still on track--spiritually, healthwise, organizing my home, cuttting away some things which will not bring me joy--and replenishing with positive, good worthwhile endeavors--with NO limitations whatsoever!!

In a an interview question someone asked me whats was the greatest obstacle that I overcame? My answer was ME. That alone told me-get out of my own way and be all that I dare to be..Did you get out of your own way today? What is your vision? in all areas? some visions are huge, as with Martin Luther King, Jr. but whether it's small or large it's uniquely you, believe it and achieve it, prepare and be ready to receive it!

Blessings--
