Recently, I received a letter from a prisoner who continues to claim his innocence. I discreetly write letters to prisoners often. I offer them words of insight, poetry and general encourgement. They are what I would NOT call harsh criminals but may have convictions from petty thefts to avoided probation charges. The letter I received recently though is from a prisoner who continues to confess he's been wrongly accused. His case is highly senative so, I won't give detail of what's going on with him. I don't know much about the legal process but I did do a little research on prisoners who have falsely accused of a crime and received some help through an organzation call INNOCENE PROJECT. This organization provides assistance and inquirees by e-mail and over the telephone. All case submissions are followed up with overnight mail deliveries. I found one acception, this project only accept cases on post-conviction appeal in which DNA testing can prove innocence. However, there is another project that may have cases involing bilogical evidence. Many of you may already be aware of projects like these in your own communities. I consider myself a "rookie" so I just do what little I can to aid in passing on what information I can. I will however, refer the prisoner about this organization, and perhaps he or his family will help him prove he's been falsely committed. If you have someone you'd like to help or know some who may benefit from this information please have them contact the information given below.
