{":Out Of Respect:"} (115 hits)

Out Of Respect Is About Us Changing Our Language When Talking About Or Referring To Our First Family.

The Other Day An Older Lady Corrected Me When I Called The First Lady By Name.

She Said That It Is Improper To Be Referring To Our President Or The First Lady By Their Names.

I Am Guilty Of Doing Just That, But Every Sense She Corrected Me My Language Have Change

When Referring To The President And The First Lady.

Which We All Know That Is Not Respectable When Referring To A Leader By Name.

We Are Supposed To Say President Obama Or The First Lady.

Matter Of Fact, I Was Reading Something The Other Day And It Was Talking About

How Tyler Perry Insists Of The People That Work For Him To Call Him Mr. Perry.

He Said He Have Young Adults Working For Him And That When You Got Kids Half Your Age Walking Around Talking About What's Up.

He Said That is A No No.

Because He Is Their Boss And That He Are Supposed To Be An Example For Them.

Moreover, He Went On To Say That Is Just A Level Of Respect One should Give When Talking To Someone That Is In Authority Or To The Elders

Moreover, He Went On To Say That We Adults Are Supposed To Teach Our Youth About Yes Ma'Am and No Sir.

If We Want Our Youth To Show Respect, We As Adults Are Going To Have To Change Our Language In Our Households, Out In Public When Referring To Our Leaders Are Even The Ones In Authority.

I Agree With All The Above 100%.

Mozell Fleming I Agree With You 100% My Friend, Thank You For Responding.

As You Say It Is Each Individual Preference In The Way They Want To Respond When Calling The President And The First Lady By Name.

The Older Lady Was Pretty Much Telling Me That We Know That A Lot Of People Of Other Races Are Not Too Happy With A Black Man Being Their President.

When She Corrected Me We Were In A Meeting At Work And Different Races Were Attending The Meeting.

So What I Got Out Of The Correction Is That She Was Trying To Tell Me That If We As A Race Do Not Call Them President And First Lady.

And When We Showed Disrespect To Our History Making Moment By Calling Our President And First Lady By Name.

Which Will Cause Other Races To Refer To Them In The Same Fashion.

Mozell, here Irma goes with the Black history bit(smile)I will only say that if you notice it you can tell if a Black person is from the south or the north or just one generation from the south. They will automatically not call a person older them by the first name. Most of us do this because we were taught to do this and not taught why we do this...this is where the demand that our children be taught our history from our information not as it has been changed to pull us in so many different directions we no longer listen to each other.

I have been doing this calling those adults by not their first name, but it was in college that I learned why we were taught to do this. It all has to do with being proud of the color of our skin therefore why would books written by the majority have us know this, but now WE write the books for our RACE.

It is all about pride in where we have reached up the social ladder. The farest the Black female could go was up from maybe maid to head house keeper therefore it was only us to call our selves Mr and Mrs. So, so very simple.I believe the Obama's have reached the highest political rung of the American social ladder, do you not think so...This is why at least from the Black community they rate first class even if we are just talking about them among ourselves. But, I am sure that they would rather us know why we are called being wrong by our older people who may not know why, but they know how it is related to RESPECT by young and old as it has nothing to do with the age of the Obamas, but the position they have reached that will pull us up as a COMMUNITY.

Mozell, Michelle Obama is more than a first lady, she is a Black first lady, a Black mother, a Black wife and aBlack female professional...she represents every thing that the majority say WE are not, can not ever be...That is until the day the African-American is not seen as only who takes drugs, a bad parent, a school drop out therefore it is related to you and to me,O.K.?Until the day that you are seen as not just an excon, but a great poet!!!!!Mr. Fleming(poet) from Mrs. Robinson-retired (smile)and love this post.

I will even say that because Mrs. Obama is so tied to Africa and because her college minor was African-American study, she would neve call me by my first name nor allow me to call her Mrs. It is the respect thing. I could call her First lady and she ould not object, but her mother and I are from the same generation. That inbred respect for the Mother figure in our Black culture.
