Georgia Woodbine, Author / Speaker / Life Coach Answers How To Bounce Back From Corporate Burn Out

Do you feel run down and drained of physical or emotional energy? Do you feel that you are not getting what you want out of your job? Do you find that you do not have time to plan as much as you would like to? Before you can take action to counter burnout, you need to understand what causes it and how you can recover.

Most of us get tired and run down from everyday routines that keep us strained, frustrated and wondering, "when is it all going to get better?" Working people naturally get stressed out, whether self-employed or working for someone else. We run around like chickens without a head, trying to figure out how to get as many things done in a day, as we can. Believe it or not, this can drain you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Burnout is a serious problem in today's world and can create both physical and mental exhaustion.

Statistics show that:

•Up to 90% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related complaints.

•About a million people each day in the US are absent from work due to stress-related disorders.

•Stress has been linked to all the leading causes of death, including heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis, and suicide.

If you are feeling overstressed, tightness in shoulders, having difficulty sleeping, questioning personal values and judgments, feeling unappreciated, escaping into increased workload, not willing to take time off for a vacation: you could be experiencing corporate burn out. When you get to the point
where you are feeling burnt out, it’s time for self-evaluation and change.

How can we balance the demands of personal life and work? Well, you can start your day with a moment of silence, meditation or prayer. This time should be allotted for you to be still to connect with your spiritual self, even if it means you have to lose a half-hour of your sleep at the start your day, it’s worth it. This will help relax your mind and prevent it from racing ahead of you. More than often, we take our time for granted to do the little things that will make a big difference. The complexities of life will continue to make demands of our time, but we have to figure out a way to make each minute of our day more valuable. Once we reflect on ourselves, then we can re- evaluate the things we need to change in our lives to make us more productive. Before you give yourself to the world, you must give yourself to you.

Some of the ways we can handle burn out is:
• Learn to say no
• Reevaluate your goals
• Reduce your commitments at work and at home
• Get plenty of rest and eat a healthy diet
• Take ``time out'' during the day
• Take short vacations at least twice a year
• Develop a variety of active outside interests
• Make a list of the things you want to change in your life
