Does Rush Limbaugh See the Pink Elephant in the Room? (1500 hits)

By now, most of you have heard that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh wants President Barack Obama to fail. Many would argue that Limbaugh’s sentiments result from his disdain for the Democratic Party, which President Obama just happens to be a member of. But I think we have to dig a little deeper.

Rush Limbaugh seemingly wants President Obama to fail because President Obama’s failure would mean he is…well right. It would also signify that the Democratic Party is in trouble, and that means it’s only a matter of time before members of the Republican Party regain control of the U.S. presidency and Congress. Right?

But who in their right mind would want to hand over the presidential reins to another Republican? Republican President George W. Bush had the privilege of serving as our president for the past eight years, and look where that got us. Our economy is in a recession and our military servicemen and servicewomen are fighting two wars (both in the Middle East) against an enemy (i.e., terror) that won’t be defeated until Jesus Christ returns.

What makes matters worse, however, is Rush Limbaugh’s assertion that our times call for adherence to a more conservative agenda. What does that mean? It means less government and more tax cuts for the rich. It means the federal government doing nothing in the wake of this recession, allowing our weakening economy to reset itself. Do these approaches sound like solutions to you? I hope not. If they do, Limbaugh has you right where he wants you. During the next round of elections, your know- and do-nothing attitude will cause you to vote for Republican candidates.

People, we’re living in an age where there is no room for divisive politics. President Obama is asking all Americans to roll up their sleeves and get to work. That has nothing to do with Democratic or Republican principles. It’s about restoring our country to prominence.

President Obama wants us to improve our schools because less than 50 percent of our citizens have the educational prowess to compete against our foreign neighbors in the global economy. He wants us to develop alternative forms of energy so America will be less reliant on foreign oil. He wants to reform the American health care system because high health care costs are placing an undue burden on average Americans. In short, he wants to do what he was elected to do – help the American people help themselves.

Recent assessments of our country’s infrastructure have revealed that our elected leaders have spent decades sleeping on the job. Our bridges and underpasses are showing their age. Our underground sewage systems and electrical wiring are corroding. Blinded by an “it will take care of itself” attitude, they failed to see the pink elephant in the room, which in this case is a capitalistic system that is starting to lose its edge. Once highly respected for supplying the world’s citizenry with quality goods and services, America is now being beaten in a game it played a major role in creating.

Rush Limbaugh should spend more time speaking about the failures of America’s leaders than singling President Obama out. Sure, there is a chance that President Obama’s leadership will be just as bad as past leaders, but his words and deeds seem to be reminiscent of a person who sees the pink elephant in the room. Consequently, he is endeavoring to unite us in thought, feeling and behavior so that we can support him in his efforts to correct the problem, not make it the inheritance of future generations.

Isn’t that what forward thinking is all about?

What do you think? I look forward to reading your responses.

Anything of value requires periodic investment in order for it to remain valuable.

Our schools, transit systems, and urban infrastructure are desperately in need of attention. We are already in such a stage of dependence on foreign imports and talent to the point it threatens our national security.

Granted, I will admit that a portion of the stimulus is dedicated to pet projects and other bureaucratic spending that won't have a significant effect on the economy. Nonetheless, if the opportunity exists to increase consumer confidence and GDP while taking care of some pressing issues like sustainable energy, I'm in favor of it.

I have mixed feelings about universal health care. On one hand, there's a huge proportion of Americans that are uninsured or underinsured. We are one of the last industrialized nations where comprehensive health care is available only to those who can pay. On the other hand, I'm very apprehensive about a government-mandated healthcare industry. Both the cost and the bureaucracy of a nationalized medical system are somewhat scary... imagine the experience of the DMV, only with your medical records and procedures in the mix...

Of course Rush wants Obama to fail. If the stimulus turns out to be a bust, it lays the groundwork for a GOP renaissance in 2012.

I'm all for free market solutions, but the efficiencies American corporations have created are now benefiting foreigners who are manufacturing our goods and filling our hi-tech jobs. We need to re-invest in American innovation.

Hi,

Rush Limbaugh has a listening audience and however many tune in, speaks to the number of people who agree with him. We must not be fooled. America has changed but the question is how much and is that change for the good. African Americans tend to react emotionally and too quickly assume that all is well because Obama won the election. However, when you speak with some of the so called "Conservatives", they get amnesia and forget some major important points. If the Republicans have the answers, then what happened to George Bush. Some of them want to blame this mess on Clinton. Then what was George doing for eight years? If the republicans have the answers to the problems, why didn't they inform their President and help to keep him from looking like a zip d--- fool? I Wish someone could get Mr. Limbaugh to give a straight forward answer those questions.

I wonder how much of this so called 'crisis' would be in our lives if just more of us had not only forgotten about the Civil Right Movement or had learned about it in the first place as an effort for the betterment of all in America?

I wonder if more of us had been complaining about jobs being out sourced and the returns to us over this was poisoned : medicines, foods, toys and more threats to our enviornment due to those polluting produced by those jobs no longer being allowed in this country?

What about a challenge to our government for having sent all of those war weapons to Iraq and empowering Saddam in the first place in their 8 year war with Iran. The Sunni Muslims led by Saddam was the only counter against the Iran backed by Russia...Iran was why we were winning in Afganastan until Bush called them EVIL

How about our political leaders and contacting them(our own selves)demanding to know about our going to war with a country which had not done us any harm? Hillary Clinton so far seem to be the only one to admit they never read about this before voting "YES" After all we did not go after the "terrorist" when they bombed the same PLACE when Bill Clinton was our president!!! So why are we in America still falling for the Bush administration prevented America from being attacked AGAIN!??

Why blame Rush Limburagh for our short comings or is it he is saying what we do not want to hear? Or because, we just want to not live up to who is this government OF THE PEOPLE????sure I do not like Rush or any of the things that the Conservative's Racist-Christian-Family (male head of house hold)party (Limbaugh)base has to say, but we must look at our own selves because we have given him the right to say these things on our PUBLIC air waves...

reality check for myself and just venting-speaking out loud(smile)
