Look Inside: Are Mega-Churches helping their poor? (349 hits)

Hours and hours passed by as I anticipated in writing this blog. I didn't want to seem as if I'm pointing or blaming or even coming to a conclusion that places of worship a lacking in helping their own. My total goal in this is based on my opinion only. A thought that occured to me because I know someone who is active member of a large congregation who is presently needing aid in helping to meet some of her basic needs. She has two children and she is head of the household. She is jobless and receives very little financial assistance. Which means she's not all the way capable to paying just a few of her basic needs. I've find this very commonplace to church members. Little is known why some churches are not aiding the poor members of their memberships. It could be that the less fortunate members are not asking, or that they are failing to meet certain criterias of the membership body. Some of the poor may suffer embrassment too; and feel that they will be riduculed for asking for help from the church. This can be a very senative move. Ministers and Pastors may not be totally aware of the vast silent cry of their own poor. Some of them are solely devoted to raising money. My own thought is how can they not help? These churches have thousands and some millions of dollars, yet their members are suffering in need of just a little help. There are many reasons the poor are overlooked in congregations but soon the church will start to feel it's crunching poor. As more and more people will be out of work, and the displaced member will be part of the mega-churches dilemna. If you can, talk with your congregations and see if there is funding for those members who need it, or even speak with your minister or pastor about setting up a fund to help. Churches have a part in helping others, but also in helping their own. Look inside and see what ways or best for your church. There is some poor among all the congregations. Look inside.

Churches are businesses. Usually privately owned by the pastor, especially in the Black community. So ask yourself, if you had a Mercedes-Benz monthly payment, custom suits to pay for, a 4,000+ sq. ft. home in a high tax zone, his and her Rolex watches, brand new Nikes for the kids and two vacations per year -- not to mention the private 'sensal' massages each week -- would you be giving the 'extra' money that's left to poor folk? Hell no! And I know for certain that many DO ask but are turned away.

Thank you Gentlemen for your responses. I have read each one. I am not a enemy of the church, but I know many church leaders are not showing the compassionate aspects of helping it's members. I am aware of the many pulpits loaded down with preachers only seeking to fill their own pockets for personal gain. This topic of Look Inside: Mega-Churches has a much larger overview than what I've touched on; and no doubt there a lot of undercurrents of tactics being used in the goal of solely making money and not saving souls, or being the keeper of the sheep. Congregations have surely been polluted far from bibical teaching. Remember, though I'm just one who has a concern about how much difficulty those who are trusted and devoted members--attending every service and paying their offering, but because of the rise in costs of living or job losses they are in needful cry for help! When they seek their church family often they are blotted out in a reason so uncaring. Some of them feel they cannot ask for help, and are being turned down when they come asking for aid. I understand the method of churches being big business too, I'm not necessarily pleased with it, and it is my belief, God will take care of all things unworthy. Your comments are well stated. Thank you.
