HOW MENINGITIS AFFECTS BIPOLAR (590 hits)

Meningococcal disease is a bacterial infection that causes swelling of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, called Meningitis, or causes blood poisoning, called Meningococcemia.

It is the most common cause of bacterial Meningitis in the U.S. among toddlers, adolescents and young adults. The infection strikes nearly 3,000 Americans each year, and 10 to 12 percent of those infected will die.

Among those who survive Meningococcal disease, approximately 20 percent live with permanent disabilities, such as brain damage, kidney disease, hearing loss, or loss of limbs. There is a safe, FDA-approved vaccine that can help prevent the majority of adolescent cases.

Please make sure your child receives this vaccination by age 12!! Visit the NMA for more information about symptoms at www.nmaus.org.

Preventing a childhood disease reduces the amount of stress a mother can experience simply because she has a child with a disability. It is an added responsibility when children have diseases and slowly over time, it will burn out a mother emotionally.

With taking the proper and appropriate steps to make sure your child receives all vaccinations, the family will benefit. Living with a child with disabilities causes deep emotional harm. Please support the NMA and all foundations that serve to educate US to be more responsible.
