From Slavery To Freedom John Hope Franklin Died Today (989 hits)

94 years is a long life, but as our other great historian John Henrik Clarke any age to young for a great man to die. John Hope Franklin was one of the required reading for many Black History Courses. I remember reading portions of From Slavery to Freedom When I was in school. Although I felt that he was part of cause for the Ideological disconnect with the African Continent, his scholarship was beyond reproach.

He will be missed.

clarence, thank you for this informatiion....Mozell, read once again the comment of the person who posted this and you will know why you have never heard of this person whose words has had so much to do with why we now have a Blak President.

Like Mr. Franklin too many of OUR BLACK leaders that too many of ous only know(were ever allow to learn about were chosen by the White man...

Who knows maybe my comment will be deleted...but we still will continue to cause CHANGE is respect for racism in the world(smile)

I expected to be deleted for the same reason you made the comment at the begining of your post....Americans(much like you ) are still not ready to move on beyond the versions of the White man's 'Black In America / African-American history.

Our history began in Africa and not in America. Until the Black Panthers our history in public schools(pioneered by Mr. Franklin)was limited to slavery and one week in the whole school year.

Now we have moved on to things like Rev. J. Wright being attacked for saying that we as decendants of Africa hear mucis differently...as taught in African -American (Federal& State tax payed) college departments. Classes in African-American: music, culture, family, history, film Philosophy, religion and every thing else that is now taught in the NOI's and the state of Pa in grade school!

Now please return to the comment of brother Mozell's to get more of my reference to being DELETED???????!!!!!!IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS....(smile)

OH, by the way clarence, because my BA says African and African-American study, I could be out of step with you and your versioin of BLACK history, but please correct me if those people brought here to America as SLAVES come out of thin air or did they come from Africa...and did they have a history or did the slave masters creat it as they for them????For example there is as phrase that says "The conquer writes the history of those they conquer".

But, as those who were brought from Africa were not human then maybe eventhough the common cold has a history they(Blacks) deserve no history???? Please give me a break on this 'where should Black history begin'...(smile)

clarence, are you saying the our public schools do not teach classes in:child rearing, family, music, religion, socialogy, philocophy. psychology, languages, and more important ethnic differences say like biology, geography, medicine?

Little things like Blacks are more likely to have cycle cell anemia and why this is so? Lots to do with geography and why this was not studied until in the 30s when more than Blacks began to die from this illness? You do know how drugs were fine in America until it began to come out side of Harlem? Why we only now have a Black president and he almost did not get elected because of sitting in a Christian Church listening to the voice of the Black community out side of that allowed on TV???!!!

And, please if possible stop looking at me or any of my choldren or any member of my family or any of my friends as FAILUARS in any thing...I repeat this is what the White man teaches and you try to teach and I am living proof that this version of the Black In America is false.

Being African-American is an experience and can not be taught it can only be experienced as a positive or a negative.Ebonics was my first language and please come out here to Oakland, Ca. to see how our PUBLIC schools are requiring the PUBLIC school teachers and the schools themsleves to learn to respect this as a part of our Black culture, socialization which is LEARNED IN THE B-L-A-C-K H-O-M-E. How you are SOME BODY even if there is not father in your home because he died in the war in Iraq, Nam, WWi-II, car accident as a policeman -fireman on duty or even a school teacher in his own class room, stc!!!! That all Blacks do not:steal, do drugs, go to jail and are the scum of the earth...I repeat this is a teching of the White man that will never give up trying to get ME to accept your VERSION of who I AM...(smile)Sweet heart,"I AM"!I am a person who will leave this planet a lot better than I found it.

My best to you...and anyone else who gives what they do 110%

clarance, what I am trying to get over to you is as you told me about Harriet Tudman did that book tell you this woman could read and write? did any of your books tell you about the Quakers or ware they limited to Abe Linclon?

When you hear that having no male head of the home is why Black men are in prison challenged by you in any way and why this has nothing to do with the Black family make up as this is something made uup and taught to African-American to keep them thinking they deserve to be second class citizens? co you know that it was President Johnson who made this idea so accepted in America as the truth??!!?I even bet you believe that President John F. Kennedy did something to help the Blacks in America don't you? Another false hood as it was President Johnson...And, by the way it was the White mael who was taught to read and write and back then as many slaves as White women were educated...UNDER THE TABLE...
