I know it's been awhile.. got involved with too many things online, and couldn't keep track of them all! So i pulled back.
Anyhow... I just read a couple of news reports about the US boycotting the UN racism summit, and I think that was/is the correct decision.
I read in the news that many people of color thought the President, being a person of color, should attend- but racism is beyond color.
The main objective at this summit is to denounce the existence of the State of Israel as a nation, and restore it to the Palestinians.
The language of the resolutions on the table at the UN is heavily anti-Semitic in nature and the US has always backed the right of Israel to be an independent nation. As a matter of fact, israel's nationhood was a direct result of the founding of the UN.
How quickly we forget... the founding of the UN was to prevent the terrible genocide that was witnessed in such grand and ugly scale during WWII. So far, the UN has not lived up to that purpose at all.
And so far much of the issue is and(drum roll, gasps of shock, horror and disbelief) has been muslim types against non muslims. There were muslim extremists behind the horrors in Bosnia, Croatia, Mogadishu, Malaysia, the kidnappings of christian missionairies in the Phillipines, and if you hadn't caught the drift or didn't know the history, when Israel was declared a nation on May 14 1948, the next day the five nations surrounding Israel declared war on them, and they have been fighting off an on eve since then,
Now, the nation of Iran is calling for the destruction of the state of Israel, denouncing Israel's existence. In the past, the president of Iran has declared his intention to destroy Israel, and hasten the return of what he believes in.
Such language would be easily denounced if spoken in America. About people of color, any color. (even those who choose lavender!) But we are so myopic(nearsighted) about racism that we refuse to acknowledge a few things-
1- to try to eradicate the nation of israel is racism in its' purest form
2- Jewish people have been staunch supporters of blacks in america. whether we want to acknowledge it or not!
3- muslims aren't too fond of christians either and as many of folk on this blog profess to be christians, I would think we would want to stand with Pres. Obama on this decision to stay out of these talks until Jewish people are treated with equality and the nation of Israel has the right to exist. cause we may be next as the world's largest mostly christian nation... think about that one folks....
