THIS EARTH DAY IN MEMPHIS:

MIDTOWN MEMPHIANS MARCH AGAINST VIOLENCE
04.22.2009
Residents of a Memphis Mid-Town Community took to the streets (Cooper & Young) to march against violence. This march was organized in protest against two recent acts of violence against neighborhood residents. Two recent occuring within days where a victim was shot just walking his dog, and the other a robbery shooting in broad day light from some one who asked for directions the shot the pedestrian. Now, the residents took to the streets with signs protesting that enough is enough!
What better day to hold such a positive march than on Earth Day.

Afterall, people live in the earth as well as plants and animals --that's one for the books!

Earth Day finds a new book by a former Congressman; and famed family politican..read this..

Whew! I think I had more Ford talk than I had earth tales ?

What on earth he's doing? WHO?
Let's find out shall we?

CASH DASHES FOR CASH AT THE GATES!
04.22.2009
Memphis, TN

Memphis City Schools Superintendant, Dr. Kriner Cash is on a dash to Atlanta to apply for a bid on big cash grant! MCS can be granted to be in part of a 100 million dollar granted offered by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The grant will aid in funding Memphis City Schools with the money to assist in school funds and books, along with brand new computers. Dr. Cash will be one of the 4 participants taking part in that 100 million dollar grant's bid. He's dashing for Cash!

Could that be called a CASH DASH?

"That's a lot of paper, and paper is made from wood which comes from trees, and trees comes from the earth, and the green grass grows all around and and around. The green grass grows all around."

You say: OKAY, THAT'S ENOUGH!

So, tell us what in EARTH is next?
I've got about three of stories about the Mayor...

MAYOR WILLIE HERENTON PRESENTS HIS BALANCED BUDGET FOR MEMPHIS,
HE ATTENDS A BENEFIT,
THEN HE WANTS A CONGRESS SEAT!
04.22.2009
Memphis, TN

Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton, presented his budget on April 21, 2009 in front of the City Council meeting. The Mayor stated that there will be a 3% raise for city employees, and new hires for police officers. He said that his budget did not include any school funding. The Mayor also attended a fund-raiser for local blues singer Ruby Wilson last night. Ms. Wilson suffered a stroke recently that left her with extensive hospital bills. Her performance was at The B.B. King Club last night were many attended in her support including the Mayor...The Mayor also passed out a new annoucement, on Tuesday. The statement said he plans to run for congress in 2010 against the present State Congressman, Steve Cohen. Only a little time ago, the Mayor stood and supported the Congressman, but what on earth is he talking about running for congress? That's a question, many politicians and city councils members are wondering. Memphis citizens are not to shaken in his unearthly statements! His is his most memorable statement for the day: .... "The City of Memphis budget is on "SOLID GROUND" finally".

..Du..uh! WHAT A busy Mayor! Where on earth WILL he be going?

I've got one more to end the Day.
Hometown Memphis Earth Day's Story...

THIS EARTH DAY SAW PLENTY OF MEMPHIANS PLANTING
04.22.2009
Memphis, TN

Memphis gardeners were out and about today, with fair and warm weather digging, planting and working in their yards. Some were planting for a summer's garden, others were potting plants, and some were mowing yards. Yours truly included. I planted some petunias. It turned out a few Memphians planted a few new trees. The weather for Earth Day was splendid! Sunny and Mild.

....And the green grass grows all around and and around....and the green grows all around. Hope your Earth Day was plentiful in growth!

Now, that wasn't too much dirt was it?
Thanks for remembering Earth Day, and for diggin in for read with me!

Miisrael I'm glad the people are doing something about the violence instead of just keeping silent.

You've said it Jen! The protest was a success and for an update, The group met tonight at the Mid-Town Church of Christ at 7p.m to discuss further plans for neighborhood watches and street patrols. Much need efforts like these take back our communities and help curve crime. There's a great message when people come together! Thanks for the comments JF.
