Geneology/DNA testing

· Friday, May 1st 2009 at 8:21PM · 2251 views
My sister (we have the same parents) did a DNA swab. She's on BWC as NurseNessa I believe. Anyway, we wanted to trace our african roots. The goodnews, is that we know our ancestral roots trace back to ANGOLA and some Equitorial Guinea in west africa. It makes sense. Looks like my father's side. What surprised me was some of the other stuff that showed up. Like German. . Is this from my mother's side? I doubt from my father's. Unless I am reading this wrong. This was not the DIRECT ancestral roots, but our DEEP ancestral roots. See the link below for how it panned out. My sister paid only 260 dollars for this test if you want it done....

Here's just a part of the results, tracing our deep ancestral roots:

Part B: Native Population Match: These results are your Top 20 matches in a database of 661
native populations that have experienced minimal movement and admixture in modern history
(approximately, the last 500 years). Individual matches do not necessarily indicate recent social
or cultural affiliation with a particular ethnicity. Instead, your Native Population Match results
identify populations where your DNA is most common, reflecting your deep ancestral origins.

This would mean that the tribes these results are based on
have had little exposure to intermixing with other people
but at some point in history, someone ventured out
of said tribes and were exposed to other gene pools... the dna traced our DNA back to those groups, in the percentages on that page below:

HERE IS how ours turned out:

That's neat and perhaps the you should check out the link to the "Out of Africa" theory I posted. Here's a little of it below that might explain your sister's German ancestry.
Mixing of the races, eh...

According to a just released 10-year study, Africans have more genetic variation than any other people on Earth. The finding confirms the so-called “Out of Africa Theory” which asserts that human life began in Africa and then spread to the rest of the world. The greater genetic variation or diversity indicates Africans were the planet’s original people since there tends to be more changes in genes the longer a people have been in existence.
The study also confirmed that 71 percent of African Americans can trace their genetic ancestry to West Africa.

However, American Blacks also have between 13 percent and 15 percent European genes in addition to smaller amounts of genetic ancestry from other parts of Africa ranging from Angola to Senegal. Other studies have put the European genetic component as high as 20 percent. But contrary to the claims of many older Blacks, Tishkoff said her team could find “very little” evidence of American Indian genes among African Americans. The study is detailed online in the current issue of Science at: http://www.sciencemag.org .

This is really interesting. Why are all the dots blue? I see that blue means lowest, but are they all blue because there's such a mix that one could not be qualified as strong or strongest? I'm gonna have to check this ste out. Thanks for posting this.

Blessings...

There's a documentary by National Geographic titled "The Real Eve", which talks about just this if anyone cares for further knowledge. It focuses on mitochondrial DNA, which is traced in women. They also have a kit to perform this same analysis that decodes ancestrial origins.
