Good Afternoon, Everyone:
I’ve been reading some interesting comments posted on the Internet concerning President Obama. For starters, anyone with minimal intelligence should know that you can’t believe everything that is posted on this “open” media. Although many reputable media organizations utilize the Internet to generate advertising revenue via their online news stories; all of the information that is posted on the Internet, as a whole is not reliable.
Personal bias based solely upon racism has always “tainted” the evolution of Western culture. Historically, the positive contributions of African Americans, in particular, have been routinely overlooked as an important component within the curriculum of public schools. The dominant culture for centuries has “abused” and “brainwashed” African Americans into believing they were immoral, incompetent and untrustworthy. Make no mistake; by no means am I excusing the shortcomings of African Americans who chose to abuse the public trust as elected officials; but “THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH”. The dominant culture has been very content to witness and lambaste African Americans for our failures; however, when one of us succeeds – it scares them to death! President Obama’s election represented a paradigm that is the foundation of what America promises but not all American citizens wholeheartedly embrace. Regardless of your origins or ethnic background as long as you study, work and excel – anything is possible in America – THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!
In all fairness, I don’t believe any human being should be placed upon a pedestal because we all have flaws that will undermine even our best of intentions. Humility, compassion and understanding are indispensible virtues that we all should cultivate, especially those in the public arena because GOD SITS HIGH AND LOOKS LOW. When our world has been turned upside down, we expect people to freely extend these qualities to us. As the old saying goes, “IF YOU DON’T GIVE, YOU WON’T GET”.
President Obama was simply handed a political and fiscal nightmare that would exhaust the most seasoned of politicians. He never told us that he would solve all of our problems because he knew it would require the uncompromising tenacity of the American people to do it. He openly extended his hand to any parties who are willing to work with us. The world as a whole has become such a “global village” that no nation can afford to live in isolation. The world’s interdependence is just too great. What affects one nation, impacts us all.
America is at a crossroads in which we are being forced to grasp the limits of our resources and we have to skillfully cultivate relationships with nations in which our cultural differences are substantial. The political paradigm has shifted from “domination to cooperation, period”. This is an essential component to ensure our survival. Individuals who are “stuck in the past” are destined to be extremely miserable. They are too fearful of a reality in which “they can’t control”. What they fail to realize is that ALL THINGS HAVE A SEASON AND ONLY GOD KNOWS THE REASON. Nobody likes unpredictability but things have to change. Accepting large scale changes is never easy but fighting them is much harder. Working together in a constructive fashion is always much better than criticizing in a destructive one.
May Peace Be With All of You,
Gail Cooper
