It's always so stimulating to discover that Blacks are fulfilling achievements and finding determination where there are becoming among the Firsts. On Saturday, July 11, 2009 there was one who found her way to fill some big shoes. 15 year-old Kimberly Anayadike of Los Angeles, California became what is believed to be the youngest African-American female to pilot an airplane from coast to coast! She didn't fly alone though, she was accompanied by an adult safety pilot, and an 87 year old World War II Veteran, named Levi Thornhill. Miss Anyadike had to stop and rest for approximately 13 stops along the way. It was her original ideal to fly across the country because she wanted to honor the Tuskegee Airmen, which she also met many of them along her journey.
This is such a significant first as we know that each of us can has our own firsts, and how we as a people still are achieving many goals. The flying teen was quoted as saying: I had big shoes to fill."
