HERE'S WHAT'S GOING ON IN WINNIESPOETRY HOMETOWN MEMPHIS

SAY CHEEZE PLEASE!
"Please Welcome The SCLC to Memphis"
08.02.2009
Memphis, TN

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference opened on Saturday, August 02, 2009 at the Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The conference however received very little publicity or welcome from The City of Memphis like many other larger conferences do. Linda Williams a member of SCLC and a close associate of mine, quoted to the local newspaper: "The National organization had shut them out of the planning process." Linda also said that Memphis being a hosting city should had voiced of the visitation. Planning orginally was scheduled to take place at The Peabody hotel, but changed abruptly to the church.

This Atlanta based organization chose Memphis to revitilze the "Poor People's Campaign." which was started by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. Although the conference has been facing challenging changes the SCLC mission is with continued effort to service as a notable leader servicing the poor and all etchic communities. On Monday, August 03, 2009 The SCLC held a public meeting at The Civil Rights Museum and announced while in Memphis they will aid in helping the sanitation workers here in Memphis smooth out differences a somewhat discrepency in their contract regarding reporting to work on rainy days. At least 100 workers walked off the job recently during heavy raining in Memphis and were considered within insubordination and breech of their contract. In addition, the SCLC will also be visiting the city of Kenneth, Missouri and marching against the protest of the Klu-Klux Klan. The conference will continue through Wednesday, August 05, 2009.

Since they didn't get a great big Memphis City's welcome strike a pose and say: Cheeze please! I welcome them to Winniespoetry Hometown Memphis!

"That's nice MIISRAEL"

You want to know what else is nice?

You, you're nice! ..or at least you can be.

The next's story was a nice one to do.. Read this one while you're smiling through...

REGULAR PEOPLE SMILE AND TELL THEIR STORIES TOO!

[Photo: Of Cleotha Dowdy- Commerical Appeal]

The Crossroads project has recently been filming Memphis people who grew up during in the civil rights era. Memphians get to film their own personal incidents of how things were back them. The project started at Rhodes College in 2006 and has used students from the schools to interview key black and white players in movement of civil rights during the 1950's to 1970's. However, with a new direction, the project's taken a turn to other regular folks. Retiree, Hollywood Community director, Cleotha Dowdy [Pictured above] was smiling telling his own version and story as Rhodes College students filmed him on camera. Project director Dr. Suzanne Bonefas makes it clear she's not only interested in key blacks and whites, but regular people who wish to tell their own experiences. "Usually regular people just give their remarks without studying or keeping a clean profile of their statements." students noted. The completion of the project will be posted on the Crossroads web-site and will also incude, funny moments, documents of the KKK, and just ordinary people who share their own ordinary stories. Students conducting the interviews found the project worthwhile and an eye-opening experience. If you live in Memphis and may be interested in sharing your story contact Rhodes College regarding the Crossroads to Freedom Project. Your story counts too!

DON'T SAY CHEEZE..... SAY PLEASE!

08.03.2009--Memphis, TN

A janitor and his wife were working at their jobs --cleaning a day care center when robbers came in pointing a gun and not a camera at them while they worked. The robbers took their cash and left. A survey camera caught the whole incident, but NO one was saying cheeze! They took the workers cheeze and left! If anyone knows anything about the robbery they are asked to call Memphis Police or CrimeStoppers at (901) 528-CASH. Cash as in Cheeze!

Oh Please!...That's really lower than GREASE!

Of course it is, robbing those hard-working people. I'm sure those bad robbers-- if and, when they're caught will be saying "please not with cheese" when they having their mugs shot!

CHA-BLOTCH! ...CHA BLOTCH! ...CHA BLOTCH!
