National News
School bells will be ringing as the nation's school return to classes. However, students may be in for a little ping of a pang when they discover they may be subjected having three vaccines for H1N1 (otherwise known as the Swine Flu) America has seen a death total of 500 cases or more from the victims of the flu. The National Health Director noted that they are also afraid they will be no vaccine available. Parents are advised to keep sick or ill children home to help prevent the spread of the outbreak. Many parents are taking precautions by giving their children sterile hand gels and encouraging them to wash their hands often. Clinics may be springing up in the schools using them as vaccinations sites for students to take the shots. Health officials are encouraging parents to have their children vacines for H1N1, but of course, any parents may refuse. Flu cases were still at an all time high even during summer vacations.

It's back to school for Memphis City School and Shelby County students on Monday, August 10, 2009. Parents and students have also taken advantage of bringing home the school supplies this weekend because on Friday, Saturday and Sunday was tax free weekend! In addition there were lots of school supply give-a-ways on Friday and Saturday for children who needed assistance. This of course, "lessoned the pang" of low-income families, or homes with more than one student. Many parents got to take challenge in purchasing tax free school uniforms as well and all school supplications necessary. Classes start promptly at 7:30 a.m.
"Lessoned the PANG!" Oh, wasn't that a cheap line! I admit.. O.K.! I tried to have a little fun! Ouch!

MAYOR!

Last Thursday was the end of the Herenton era, and the new interim mayor Myron Lowery has taken to the mayor's seat. Mayor Lowery begin in his first week by sending word of temination to the City's attorney Elbert Jefferson of his immediate dismissal! This caused quite a stir and a little "ping! pang!" The attorney was in for quite a pang when he was escorted from the building by security officers! Jefferson still feeling the pang wanted to see if this was legal procedure for termination. Therefore before leaving his legal attorney's seat, the City Council held a meeting on Wedmesday, August 05, 2009 to vote and discuss if the interim mayor could account legally dismiss him. Mayor Lowery wants to replace him with another choice, but the choice he's selected does not live in Shelby County and possibly cannot serve the post since all appointees must be a resident of Memphis or Shelby County. There's more to this story so stay tuned in future issues.
What a twist -of- pang that is...so we shall read on..

It's Elvis week in Memphis and fans and touristss will come from all over the world to celebrate the memorial of Elvis! Graceland will be hosting it's events and presentations during the week of August 8-16th. Events will include the Annual Candlelight Vigil which is free to all. Tourists and fans will attend this event with lighted candles and their favorite memoriblia and cameras. There also a competition of the Ultimate Elvis contest on August 13, 2009. Memphis has been entertaining Elvis fans for years! Crankping! up the guitars Elvis week has those guitars striking a PANG! and Elvis music and movies will be hitting the windopangs! of televisions and radios.
Twist, Rock and roll with Elvis pangs at Gracepang's hapa'pings. I'll be around somewhere to keep your eyes on local Elvis memorial celebraping!!
