A New Way of Thinking (665 hits)

People it is imperative that we develop a new way of thinking! There is a whole new world out there. Things are shifting faster than a comet and in order to ride it, you have to begin to think outside the box. As I watched our president talk about his first 100 days, I was struck by the monumental tasks that lie before him, and ultimately, us. President Obama is the leader but he is not the solution. We have to become the solutions. It is our children, grandchildren, and grandchildren, yet to be born, that run the risk of inheriting a “hot mess.”

When I look in our communities I see need all around. People need jobs, healthcare, babysitters, better education, mentors, food, shelter, and maybe someone to listen to them. We all know what the problems are; we have to begin to start providing solutions. There are simple things we can do just like our grandparents did during the depression, we can look after each other. Offer someone a hand. Let’s have some random acts of kindness. Start to think in terms of us, not in terms of those people. We are one. Our communities are suffering and making a difference is easy because it doesn’t take much when people are down.

Take a neighbor’s child to church with you or teach them to knit, cook, or grow flowers—teach them something other than—nobody cares. Smile at the young people on the corner and say, “hello young man or hello young lady,” even the young men with their pant hanging down. We have to make the difference in our communities or no one will. It is incumbent upon us to change our collective attitudes and soften our hearts. Trust me, I know all the ought tos—what folks ought to be doing for themselves and their children—but some aren’t and many can’t. So maybe we can snap out of it and begin to just do what needs to be done, simply because it needs to be done. We must empower ourselves to become the change we wish to see. Our rights, freedoms, and hard fought liberties, have not been taken away, we are giving them away. We have a choice about the future that we leave our children and grandchildren. We can change the course of the future by deciding to do so today. Choose you this day who you will serve.

Barbara, thanks for the post. I am sure there are many ways we can all make a contribution and that is why I joined this site. I have just contacted a local church who is starting a technology ministry to see if I can help out. Technology is my background and I'm interested in bringing the benefits of technology as an aid in education, particularly by access to the Internet.
