Why I Play Freecell or How to Change the World (586 hits)

For those of you who don’t know, Freecell is a computer card game. Smack in the middle of my business day you may walk up behind me and see me playing this game. It probably looks like I’m not working. (It’s a good thing; I don’t have a boss looking over my shoulder.) That’s not the case. Often went I am stuck, I play Freecell. Why? Because, it opens my mind for a solution.
Freecell is a game that you can always win! There is always a solution. The only way you lose is by not having a good strategy. The beauty of it is, you can restart the game, and play it as many times as it takes to win.

Why am I telling you about Freecell, because of the spiritual lesson—there is always a solution to every problem. Freecell teaches me to be flexible, to think before I make a move, and that if I don’t give up, I can win. These are powerful life lessons. This game is more than just a game, it is a fun way to stimulate your mind, learn to develop strategies, and to persevere. Webster has a definition of game that I particularly like and that is; a procedure or strategy for gaining an end. What I like about that is that if you can think about your goals as a game, it can be make the journey much more fun and I would venture to say, more certain. The goal is the end and the game is the strategy.

There are many people who have dreams, wishes, or ideas that they want to develop and here is an invitation: Start to think of your goal, like the game Freecell—it has a solution and—begin to allow the strategy to show forth. Have fun with it! In my opinion, the best games are the ones where you challenge and develop yourself. Going for a goal or dream helps to develop you. Everyone has their own unique contribution to make to the world. Many of the dreams, wishes, and ideas that you have been sitting on are just the ones that will help us to transform healthcare, the economy, communities, parenting, education, the environment, or the peace process. Who knows? Begin!

“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I am calling forth all of you as world changers. Everyone has the potential. It doesn’t have to be some huge grandiose idea; it can be a simple act of kindness, forgiveness, or a smile. This is your world therefore it is yours to shape the way in which you desire for it to be. Now, this may sound like sweetness and light, but the Truth is that this is simple, but not easy. Change is difficult for to accept and implement, even though things are always in a state of change. The act of creating something is new is messy, sometimes painful, but oh so worth it. I invite you to come out and play with me. Play the wonderful game of transforming your world!

I play this game as well and I never thought of in that way. If I can find ways to win at this game then I know that I can find ways which to improve my life.
