Vasco Smith dies at 84

Prominent personality and Civil Rights Activist, Vasco Smith departed his life on Monday, September 28, 2009 after his fight with an acute illness involving bone cancer. The leader also has a served as a former Shelby County Commissioner for 21 years from 1973-1994. Dr. Vasco Smith was also a licensed practiced dentist and has help restored and saved teeth of thousands of Memphians. He and his wife Maxine recently celebrated their wedding anniversary and his 84th birthday. Dr. Smith is remembered as a favorable man and liked by many supporters and followers in his movement with the Civil rights movement. His wife, Maxine recently was a featured hostess at the NAACP Conference held in Memphis this past weekend. Memphis will definately miss Dr. Vasco Smith, but his work and legend will long be remembered. Funeral arrangements have not been completed at the time of this story.
