Glad to see you dropped in on WINNIESPOETRY HOMETOWN!

Hello MIISRAEL!

As some Memphians say;

"How ya'll doin today?"

"Fine."

Open your book...

I have selected a few stories of interest, but there's always the First Story isn't it? Let's read the first story I have today; it's already done. In the story of:

A GIFT FOR YOUR GUN
Memphis, TN -October 10, 2009
Related from: The Commerical Appeal]

Hundreds of Memphians gathered on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the National Civil Rights Museum to hand over their guns for a gift. This yearly program collects guns off the street and from homes in order help aiding in curving gun crimes. This year's event was hosted by Pro Tem Mayor Lowery. Those who turned in any operational gun landed themselves a gift certificate of $100 from Kroger Groceries or from The New York Suit Exchange stores. The representation did very well with 58 semi-automatic pistols, 51 revolvers, 2 derringer-type pocket pistols, 21 shotguns and 28 rifles collected. It's proven that this program is working, but still as always more participants are urged to turn in their guns. Gun time can be jail time.

If I see your grocery basket full of food, or wearing that new Zoot Suit! I know you've traded your gun for a gift!.....BUT

Wow! isn't that a bit scary! All those guns...made me think about who these people are? Probably, some are just regular people like you and me....

That's an interesting first story MIISRAEL.

Glad you think so, but there's always a second story.

We'd like to read your second story too!

You know what? "I just love when you come and read WINNIESPOETRY" Hometown Memphis, Tennessee. It's like serving a piece of apple pie to my neighbor. You know, I consider you my neighbor, even if we're miles and miles apart....hmmm.

[Smiles]

Let's read this next story of second nature wit' s .... Shelby County school students work harder to get fit!

In:

HERE'S A BIG BOUNTY

Memphis, TN-- October 12, 2009

Students are not only attending class studies, they'll be improving their physical grade as well. The Shelby County Schools has a new fitness program that encourages students to move! No more standing around and loafing, they'll be running, dancing and hopping! Because 30% of the students of Shelby County are overweight, this fitness program is designed to burn off the fat. The program is searching for fun and creative ways to get students to exercise and have more healthy lifestyle. The state has endorsed this new fitness program to help teach prevention of overeating, and also the benefits of exercising. The Shelby County Schools are offering an exercise program called GeoMotion which is about an average cost of $1000 for each student participant. This will include, mats, music and the exercise aerobic series. Now classes will be where they'll have exercises that will improve a child's great wealth to their health!

I say... here's to their health!....

To their health!

Those little fat kiddies will be slimmer by next spring. I hope they'll be smarter too!

Have you ever noticed in storytelling, the third story always has another side to the first story? You know,.. like a moral to the topic, or when the bad guy has his turn with the good guy!

You mean like the when good overcomes the bad.

Something like that...but you'll see what I mean... Read this story ..is this just a cop out?

IF YOU DROPOUT

YOU COULD LAND YOUR SEAT!

SITTING BEHIND ON FLOORS OF A JAIL DOOR'S BEAT!
National News--10.12.2009

A new research conducted on the life of students who are high school dropouts 10 of young males are in jail or in detention centers. The study indicates that 1 in 35 young males took a plunge in finding low paying jobs. The study also shows an even bleaker picture for Afro-Americans with nearly 1 in 4 black male youths are incarcerated or institutionalized on an average day. That's in comparing with male whites dropouts which is about 1 out of 14. The researchers at Northeastern University used government data and cenus to conduct the study. They compared employment, workplace, parenting and criminal justice records to make the study. The director of the study, Andrew Sum said that "We're trying to show what it means to be a dropout in the 21st century United States." Sum also incidicated that dropouts and penal institutions costs are very high. The research intention is to offer hope of a reverse side to that dropouts have the options of finishing high school and that also;, perhaps students will reconsider dropping out which can help them in staying out of jail. Sum also said "It's scary" The study does not mention the use of gun crimes, but it's obvious some of them are using hand guns to rob, kill or steal.

SLAM!

It's no wonder we have a world full of stupid criminals..Given that some thought, if they'd jus't finish school! Really though, I pray that this isn't all true-- "every 1 in 4 black male?"

THE REVOLING DOORS

There are all kinds of studies that promote negative views on education, and some also try to promote a positve side. However, is anyone paying attention? Well, I can really only speak for myself. I pay attention, and I also encourage all students to stay in school. I hear the same messages among my peers and my asssociates too. When we see a troubled youth, we step in to encourage them. Most of them are black males, there are some females who dropout also. The fact remains that all dropouts are not from bad homes at all. Reasons I've experienced indicate that many are from good homes, with good teaching and upbringing. The dropout rate is increasing in our young men. What is causing them to give up?

I don't have any ready made anwers in a jar, but I have prayers and hopes and I have faith, that a fewer & less of them will not follow in the dropout cycle. There are other bikes to ride! Not having a hefty pride, but just a need to complete and finish something. Life is so short, and it's even shorter if you have to spend it in Revolving Doors behind jails. Maybe, just maybe-- that one out of four will listen and step out from behind Revolving Doors.....That dropout could be our own son, or daughter. In the mean time, I will Pray for Us.

This has been MY NEWS BLOG. I welcome your comments. What do you think?
