African-American (187 hits)

While speaking with a member of my church this morning, he was explaining to me something of culture and began with the words "We African-Americans..."

I don't hear this word much anymore. It seems that Black is much more common now. While African-American speaks to ancestors and culture, Black is a fairly inaccurate description of skin color. As is White. And Black and White are opposites. Why do we use these words?

Excellent point of thought Steve,

But Derek, black/white is a term coined, scienced and penned by europeanchristianThought.
skin color cannot think or reason; its geographical only.
black/white is not used by chinese, hindu, muslim, native americans, native africans or anyone but europeanChristians.

It was and is used to divert and separate human beings.--against MonotheisticThought---that all human beings are from Adaam......and eveHowah

Pigments that absorb light rather than reflect it back to the eye "look black".
This provides two superficially opposite but actually complementary descriptions of black. Black is the lack of all colors of light, or an exhaustive combination of multiple colors of pigment.

The Greatest Man in American Democratic History,
Our Leader President Baraka Hussein Obama is an Exhaustive combination of multiple pigment combinations and Changes.

I prefer to be called African American because I never want to forget where my ancestors came from.

Myself, I don't identify with white. Not to say I'm offended, only thinking ahead.

Black-White-Colored-Mixed-Mulatto?

It's all in the way that you and I were raised and/or brought up, I suppose.

It is, to me, preferential as it is acceptual!

For me, I prefer Black...mixed suggests the mixing of something, like a cake. I would prefer Bi-Racial as oppossed to being mixed. White is just plain ole white..."Black is where it's at!" (smile). African American is politically correct and accepted...from Africa we have come (so has everyone else - while maintaining denial by other than Black) and from Africa We Are Identified...and RESPECTED (as we should be).

How about this id? -BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN-? Is it not so that there are non-black African Americans?

Aw, I think it's all in the way that you and I were raised...brought up in our society and thiers.

Good Stuff Steve...as usual (grin)

Peace and Love to you ONE AND ALL

Greg.

Greg, yeah we were brought up that way. I'm happy to see a movement among some of our youth to take little thought to race. My son's friends in Alameda/Oakland have always been multi-cultural. To them, race just isn't an issue.

Hello to all,

Everyone on this blog is something, racially speaking. However, what is baffling to me is that none of the Blacks could agree on what they are, which means that I am right when I said that intelligence is not one of Black America’s disciplines.

The world of intelligent people looks at us as ignorant people and we have good reasons to be ignorant. We are descendents of slaves and our enslaved ancestors have no intelligence to pass on to their descendents, am I right.

The first sign of any people gaining intelligence is concerning themselves with their highest priority. Our highest priority is to reverse our subjugated conditions and to do this we must desire to become a sovereign people or have complete independence on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders. As long as we are not sovereign people, our future generations will be as ignorant as we are today. Since you all do not know who you are how could our future generations know who they will be?

I understand why you all avoid me and it is for the same reason that the Hebrew people avoided Moses as well. You all are operating in the lowest intellectual level and that is because you all are comfortable with each other’s mentality. You all are not challenging to each other while I am challenging to you all. Therefore, I am making the difference in your company just as Moses made the difference and thus made it possible for his people to become free.

There is a law of physics that says water seeks its own level. I am not on you all water levels and I am trying desperately to raise you all to my level as Moses was successful in raising his people to his level, am I right.

Anyway, for now, we are Black Americans who are descendents of slaves. Our making began on this continent and that means we are not from Africa. We are a new breed or race of people that has emerged out of the ashes of slavery. Our making began when White men mostly of British descent bred themselves with the first wave of African slave women on this continent. This breeding process ended in the late 18th century. We are the people, Black Americans that resulted from this breeding process.

Therefore, we are not Black African Americans, African Americans, bi-racial, etc. We are Black Americans who are descendents of slaves and this label supersedes all others.

Who knows the way besides me? Who knew the way besides Moses?

Okay, gentlewoman as well as gentlemen.
