The Queen's Chair: It's So Hard To Say Good-bye to Principal Gorman (142 hits)

I got a letter from my daughter school in the mail. It was a letter announcing that Dr. Gorman had accepted a new position in Central Office and would be working on a special project and that an interim prncipal had been selected. I was bummed.

I love Dr. Gorman. I have fond memories of him. He's always made me feel welcomed at school. Surprise visits don't faze him. His students needs are always first. He knows the "angst" we parents go through as child enters a news school and grade. He has worn some of the craziest costumes to celebrate my child's Halloween parade to the nearby nursing home. My favorite costume: the giant big cooke. (The hula skirt comes in at number two.)

I volunteer at my daughter's school and when I stop in the office, he's always asking about my latest writing project. Usually, he wants to know what type of a class party my daughter is going to have (This year, he stopped in to say good-bye to students and sample the dessert-punch party goodies.) And when I got sick, he was delighted that my "illness" didn't stop me from being involved with school activities.

So when I saw him in the school hall right before the X-mas break, I had to give him a hug and wish him well. He's educated both my daughters and was excited to hear about my youngest and how smart she was. : )

After 20 years at the helm, he's retiring. I thought "good for him." If anyone deserves it, he does. He's not moving away because his family is here. Dr. Gorman has a BIG and kind heart. Nothing against the new principal, but until I can "break her in"; Dr. Gorman is still the man. I'll miss him deeply.
