I know Mr. Reid knew in advance the fire storm it would cause when his book,"Game Change" came out. His comments in the book seem more like he planned this controversy to ride the Obama wave like everyone else. I have no doubt that he spoke the words about Obama being lightskin and doesn't speak with a Negro dialect. Is this the perception of Mr. Reid that Obama is successful because of these attributes? Is he wrong for saying them or plainly saying publicly what he said in private? We all know America is runt with political correctness we can't say anything the way it is no more without someone or some group taking offense. Well I think Mr. Reid has a right to his opinion if he believes Obama's mixed race, paler complexion and White dialect makes him appeal to more Whites. Because in actuality that's all that's he saying is that Obama success and most Blacks that reach his success have done so because they appeal with the attributes Whites like in Blacks. Well isn't it true that most successful Blacks are where they are because of some luck with Whites? Whites own 90% of America's wealth and I don't care if you're Tiger Woods you can't make it to be Tiger Woods if some Whites don't support or give you a shot. It's that way with Jay Z the rapper whom started out conscious and then switched to party music that has no content whom garnished his success because of Whites liked him. If Jay Z had stayed conscious he would not be where he is today because Whites would not approve. Oprah Winphrey is where she is because Whites have supported her career and her rise. It's not to diminish these persons hardwork, talent or their drive but the fact is we need human interference in order to make it in a human dominated domain. In this human dominated domain of American Politics we know Whites hold the majority, have the wealth, media and power on their side to decide fates. If you don't have luck with Whites then you can't be a Barrack Obama. And as such there are certain attributes that appeal to Whites and attributes that you must have in order to garnish their support and unfortunately they don't include darkskin and speaking with a profound Negro dialect unless you're an entertainer. I.E Bernie Mac. Lol. Most of Americans have been dumbed down to the level of idiocy and follow along with the media and sensational opinions feed by them. Senator Harry Reid is a snobbish of a White guy whom just feels that a Blackman whom is equally qualified as him rubbing elbows with him in the thrones of power got there not by being White like him but being Black and loved by Whites. Lol.

Yeah it's funny that Reid whom basically got to the Senator as a White male is somehow upset that Whites support Obama on the premises of his attributes. Lol. Unless somehow Reid can prove Obama is just totally unqualified it just goes down as jealousy. To me personally the whole affair is meant to sell his book and I mean Reid is a boring man period just to hear him speak makes me wanna count sheep. Lol.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but Craig, I actually agree with you. There is no such thing as 'white dialect.' I caught a hard time as a kid in the projects who spoke in complete sentences and didn't use a whole lot of slang. ...not that I didn't use ANY because I did and still do, but my mother and grandmother were sticklers about how we spoke and how we carried ourselves. They used to say, "We LIVE in the projects but we are NOT the projects." Sometime between the ages of 12-14, we moved to the burbs.
Still, I caught a hard time with friends when we moved out of the projects and I'd go back to visit just to be told that I talk 'white'. And even that's funny because before moving to the burbs, I used to get told that I talk 'proper'. I guess the difference between talking 'proper' and speaking 'white dialect' was geography!
Anyway, living in the projects did teach me a value that I still have today-- well-roundedness. And I thank God for it.

All people speak dialects even in China there are different sub dialects and the Africans have them. Stop fighting what already exists as a barrier and a problem and help to eradicate it understand it instead of using it as a reason not to identify with your own people.
Reid recognizes Blacks and Whites speak different so do alot of other people speak differently. There's only one way to pronounce English are you serious? Some of you so-called intellectuals are idiots mainly because your bias makes you narrow minded thinkers. There is a white dialect in this country and because Whites have the power it's their cultural dialect of English that is the most preferred way to speak. White dress codes are enforced worldwide as the only way to dress for business can we say suit and tie? But because pictures are easier to understand for dumb people you can see that analogy alot easier than sound. But there is a Black American dialect or Negro dialect and most of you speak it at home but you come up in here and try to act like it doesn't exist.
You get a college education and you become cold blooded and cold hearted.

Reid put this comment he sincerely made out there to sell his book. Reid a natural bore he needs to extract from Obama to sell his boring azz book. Lol. But the comment is more a testament of White Americas true feelings than about Blacks. Blacks try to see the world color blind but Whites see darkskin Blacks and see people not equal to them or worser stereotypes. It is them whom need reasons to validate treating other different from them with dignity and respect not Blacks or Obama.

This has been an amazing conversaiton for me to witness--and an intense learning experience for me.
In all the conversations here, in the media and among folks in the outside world, both black and white, almost everyone seems to be in agreement on this--that Harry Reid spoke an unfortunate truth about the state of affairs--but it was not unkind or racist. In fact, the only people who appear to be making that claim are the Republicans who are looking to make it into a political issue, gin up their base and drum up some more donations.
And the media is giving them the GIANT MEAGAPHONE.
As far as I can tell, they are the only ones pushing this. EVeryone else is tired of it already.
As Kareem Abdul Jabbar said in his recent blog: "The conservatives will continue to live in their fantasy world."

"I" believe that senator Jim Webb was able to become a senator, because he admited he uses the word *****(which we in the black community can no longer use since we took ownership of it, we must say "N" not *****) and he know the correct way to say it or the wrong hurtful way...it not not the "thems" that abuse our one vote, it is us who refuse to use it in exchange for blaming others for the results we get...but I am only able like everyone else I am a senior and some believe my role in the human race does not exist.(smile)
When reid got to the senate the black community had not one senator that had been voted into office and one tiken black on the supreme court...why not blame him for tis one also as it is the truth..and this bind we are in in America is only because it all began on Jan.21,09AND 8 YEARS OF WAY HAS NOT COSTED ONE PENNY nor the death of one unborn baby of innocent females in the middle-east or American killed in tis country...WAKE UP????????????????????

thanks, Clark, plus he now has the backings of the minortys which I am sure he needs right now...but even closer to my heart is Steele has been forced to retract much of what he has said about his own party...all of those in Congress should be kicked out and we starte to bring about the much needed change in our government.(smile)
Shameless yes, but rich, powerful because they are experts in abusing morality...does the MOrman church now recognize Blacks?????????

sister Dee, as one who spent much of her childhood living between south Phila. and N.C. I had a different experience in being accused of speaking "proper", but all was due to the norhtern accent and talking faster and the southern drawl and talking slower...
In the south it was being mean spirited , but in the north it was good natured and loving to hear me talk...
Oh and about living in the projects, well since I know of a few millionaires who moved from a rat infested apartment to the NOrris street project...there is a lot of that kind of pride in one's self that your beautiful mother taught you that is too often over looked in strong Black women( who refuse to play the victim role in to no self-esteme or just being dependant).(smile)

I am always ready to admit that because the people in england has less German and less of a melding pot of languages than we do I find it very hard to understand them...there is not one person from a non American english speaking country that does not have a great problem when they come here "speaking E-N-G-L-I-S-H...and why is well (now this is acceodint to them)they learned the England version of english...I repeat this comes directly from them.(smile)
Craig, from you comments, you are no different than any one else who do not speak standard English. so when you finish your 'whom' lesson pleas go take a look at your comments...
YOu are using White dialect as a sentance asking a question...look up "franmentation of a standard englisn sentence...Good Lord when using Lord as a name it should always be put in capitals.LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Actually what bothers me is how they keep saying the Black community said this is upset over this or don't like this or that...but, I never see an actual Black person saying this...They go full speed ahead...WELL THEY DO BELIEVE WE ARE STUPID IDIOTS...
I believe that even a brain dead person can see and know that they are proving just how right Reid is just while they are discussing this without allowing a token dark skinned person at least 30 seconds or break their own rule and have more than one African-American on any given interview at one time per program news report...
