Poll: Feeling of progress rises among African Americans (260 hits)

“In a survey of American racial attitudes released Tuesday, researchers reported that the feeling of progress is driven in large part by the election of President Obama, along with a greater sense of local community satisfaction and a more positive outlook. The majority of African Americans say they are better off now than they were five years ago.”

“Thirty-nine percent of blacks -- nearly twice as many as in 2007 -- say that the "situation of black people in this country" is better than it was five years earlier. That view holds among blacks of all age groups and income levels. Similarly, 56 percent of blacks and nearly two-thirds of whites say the standard-of-living gap between whites and blacks has narrowed in the past decade. Still, when asked about the problems facing black families, a majority said there were not enough jobs and there were too many problems with drugs and alcoholism, crime and poor public education.”

“Don Scoggins, president of Republicans for Black Empowerment, asked, "Where do we go from here?" on the blog Booker Rising. "Skin color aside, which within the Black community has perennially been a controversial topic, Senator Reid's apology . . . only confirms the unsaid feeling among many liberals who think they own everything related to civil rights and that the black community should be forever grateful yet [they] appear incredulous that an African American can speak proper English and actually embody what are regarded as white attributes even better than some of 'them'.”

“As for Obama himself, the Pew survey found little to indicate that most Americans see race dominating the first year of his presidency. Only 13 percent of whites said Obama is paying too much attention to the concerns of blacks, and most blacks said Obama was paying the right amount of attention to their concerns. The president also remains personally popular with 65 percent of Americans, even though his job approval ratings have declined during his first year in office.”

“Still, support for Obama among African Americans is even higher: 95 percent view him favorably. Among whites, 56 percent have a favorable view of the president and 38 percent of whites say their opinion of him is unfavorable, including 21 percent with a very unfavorable view. Last year at this time, 76 percent of whites gave Obama positive ratings. Pew's study attributed Obama's downward slide among whites to partisanship. Among white Democrats, nearly nine in 10 have a favorable view of Obama.”

This is great news! I feel there are progressive days ahead. I feel more confident our President is looking out for blacks, and of course for all other races in America. Thanks for giving a new perpective for progress anxiously needed.

Great information Brother Clark, but I wonder how long the 'good feeling' will last? I'll keep watching...

Hello to All,

What happens once President Obama leaves office? White America’s system of government is not a monarchy. President Obama has eight years. So again, what happens after President Obama leaves office?

Tell me what you think.

Feeling of progress has definitely risen. President Obama represents the hope of millions of slaves that perished during the transatlantic slave trade and all of their descendants who survived. He represents change, not just in color, but in how politics works. No lobbyists nor special interests running the White House any more. How? By not accepting money from them!

He who pays the piper, plays the tune. He represents youth and a fresh start. He represents the end of the status quo and a new beginning. He represents strength when it's not popular and courage when it can be political suicide. Obama is an inspiration for change for many in the future.

Hello Siebra,

Since you are so hyped up on President Obama, then why do not you answer my question as well, what is going to happen after President Obama leaves office?

Giving you the benefit of the doubt of all the things that you say he represents, and then tell me what is going to happen once President Obama leaves office? Would your Fourth of July sparkler sizzle out?

I keep telling you Negroes that you all are not rational thinkers due to no fault of your own. We are descendents of slaves and slaves are not rational thinking people.

We need the help of God over President Obama, am I right.

I am the way, and besides me, there is no other way that Black Americans could ever become real people in this world.

Tell me what you think.

Hello Ms. Shields,

We should not have to wait and see since God has sent us a prophet. Our prophet is telling us what is going to happen and where our minds ought to be.

For example, Moses asked his people what would you do about the next Pharaoh since this present Pharaoh is old, in bad health and will soon die. What will you do if the next Pharaoh is worse than this Pharaoh is? Some Hebrew people said we would have to wait and see. Moses said you do not have to wait to see anything that he was their Prophet. However, it took them two decades before they realize that Moses truly was their Prophet. So, 20 years was wasted. In other words, they could have been in the Promised Land 20 years earlier, am I right.

Why you all do not love me?

Tell me what you think.

What a shame. A people totally happy with their oppressed condition and believes it's progress because their masters have given them a few token worthless symbols.

And you wonder why I wish I could get the hell of out of this country.

John Washington
Hello Mr. Washington,

No, it is not necessary you get out of this country since a portion of this country belongs to you as a Black American who is a descendent of slaves.

Secondly, you must understand the tremendous ignorance of our people, Black Americans. President Barack Obama is the equivalent of the 1954 Supreme Court decision that outlawed schools separate but equal. The Negroes was exceedingly overwhelmed by that decision. Now, when affirmative action being signed into law, the Negroes felt they had accomplished a victory as well. President Obama’s election is also equivalent to when President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. The Negroes sang, “Free at Last, Free at Last, Thank God Almighty, I Am Free at Last.” These things overwhelmed the ignorant Negroes. Black Americans do not know any better.

Black America’s salvation could only come by the hands of God as the salvation of the Hebrew people came only by the hands of God. You know when God has intervened is when God has rose up a prophet in our midst as when God rose up Moses. God has risen me up as Black America’s first genuine prophet that would lead Black Americans into sovereignty on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders. God have inspired me to know that Black America’s only permanent solution is sovereignty and not by any other means of White America.

What say you?

Hello Mr. Mozell,

We do not need any criticism. If you are going to criticize then please do not say anything.

Mr. John but especially me, I was hoping that you would respond with some intelligence and not be a knucklehead. Knucklehead people criticize.

I want to know what you knuckleheads are going to do when President Obama leaves office. My question is legitimate and intelligent. Now if you cannot answer the question because of your limited intelligence that is fine. I will not hold your feet to the fire. But, criticizing is unacceptable unless you are a knucklehead.

What say you?

Hello Mr. Clark,

Yes, knuckleheads if you cannot tell me what will be the deal once President Obama leaves office.

For instance, let me draw up this scenario. Let us suppose that President Obama orders the Federal Reserve to give $1 million to each 41 million Black Americans. Now, at the end of Obama’s term each of 41 million Black Americans brought homes, cars and banked the rest of the money. The next President coming into office more than likely is going to be a White person since we do not see any outstanding Blacks, and this White President confiscate the homes, cars and the bank accounts of all 41 million Blacks putting Blacks back to ground zero.

So my question I keep asking you hyped up knuckleheads today is what will be the case tomorrow when Obama leaves office. Nobody seems to be able to give me an answer. At the least, Ms. Shields said we would have to wait and see. But, can anybody project what will be the case instead of having to wait and see. Damn, you all got minds do you not. So, project seven years into the future and tell me what will be the case for Black Americans after Obama leaves office? Since nobody can give me, a sensible answer is why I refer to you all as knuckleheads. So, am I being unjust?

I could theorize that none of you ever had to write a business plan. A business plan is where you want to be X years in the future. The guidance counselor must have asked most of middle school students at one time or another where they see themselves 10 years in the future. Now what is wrong with you grown BIA members that you all cannot answer my simple questions? I do not like calling you all knuckleheads because you all are my people. One thing is certain; you had all better do better than this as far as I am concerned.

I have told you all to forget about the way you all think and concentrate on the things that I say.

Tell me what you think.

Thanks Clark, especially since this makes all of what is being said about how happy we are that we will not be geting a health care public option, we can even over look those lies about us not having jobs, being in prisons...and, we are over joyed when we see those teabagger's all white rallys with the PURE civilized peoples growing bigger and bigger and those signs geting more and more vicious in answers to Palin's demands that the last thing we need is a former constitution law profesor in the Whitehouse...

YEP, ALL IS WELL IN AMERICA NOW THAT WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT.LOL

Me, I am just an old spoil sport for believing what P-U-R-E means is anyone who in D.C. or on the planet refuses to give recognition to our president.(smile)
