SCOTT BROWN WINS MASS. RACE GIVING GOP 41-59 MAJORITY IN SENATE. Village Voice, Jan. 20, 2010. (541 hits)

CONSERVATIVES ARE DELIRIOUS. “WATERBOARDING WINS!” EXULTS THE NATIONAL REVIEW, NOTING THAT BROWN “SPOKE OUT FORCEFULLY IN FAVOR OF ENHANCED INTERROGATION.” MICHAEL GRAHAM CALLS IT A “ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME, NEVER-SAW-IT-COMING, DANCE-IN-THE-STREETS VICTORY FOR DEMOCRACY.”

Brown is expected to be seated quickly as Republicans are moving just as quickly to pass new legislation with their 41-59 vote majority.

The lesson, as always, is that when Democrats win, they lose, and when they lose, they are obliterated.

I'm waiting for some other parties to become major players in the political arena so that they can give both the Democrats and the Republicans a run for their money. I'm really tired of them both.

Excellent. Informed. Astute. Forward thinking. Great analysis.

One commentator pointed out that one statistic pointed to the real reason why he won and she lost:

Campaign Appearances: Brown 66. Coakley 19 .

And for Coakley, saying that a beloved RED SOX star pitcher was a Yankee fan was a cringer. They take their Sox seriously in Red Sox nation.

Another interesting point--Mass is the only state in the union where the residents already have unviersal health care--so it is not a big issue to them.

Clark, I resepct your views so much. But you did not offer any way forward, particularly on Health Care. What do you think they should do now?

The Dems got the ball to the one yard line after driving the length of the field. It's fourth and goal. Should they call a quarterback sneak and punch the ball in? Or go for a field goal? (incremental change).

Or--what I fear most and what would be the dumbest move ever--PUNT. Give up the ball. In my opinion, that would be the worst thing they could do. They need to put points on the board just to show the American voters that they are competent and effective.

I would love to know your opinion.

Yes, I'm with you totally. You have a great "finger-in-the-wind" political sense oriented toward practical results and not ideology. Good for you!

Did you ever consider putting yourself forward as a candidate for local office? I bet you would be an amazing draw. You offer a very comforting sense of "Let's get this done".

I laugh when the Dems keep pulling back from the threat of filibuster. I remember not too long ago when the GOP was in the majority and Frist was the Majority leader--how the Dems threatened filibuster and they countered with the dreaded "nuclear option". Just that threat was enough to make the Dems cave.

It's almost like Republicans are born with three balls and Dems with one. (for the men, I mean. I hope nobody gets insulted. It's only a joke!)

There is a bottom line in all this and that is: RESULTS. The voters need to see some positive concrete results for all the posturing and politicking of the last year on hearlth care. The Democrats need to show that they have made our lives better somehow. I hope they do!!!

You made me laugh!!! I was trying to be kind!!! But I get your point. It is politcal cowardice!

Now I have another question for you. I wonder--are their any professional politicians out there you admire and trust?

I do like and trust Obama very much because I think he is honest. I just think he tries to be too accommodating. He might know how to throw elbows from his basketball days--but sometimes you need to deck your opponents and step on their necks.

Anyone else on the current scene you would give high marks to?

Thank you so much for your contributions. You are the voice of reason.

ONe of the reasons, I am afraid, that you were only able to name two politicians is because in order to survive professionally, in order to get elected, they need to please their own constiutencies. House Reps have fewer voters to please and they tend to be more homogenius and think alike.

A senator, for instance, from a large state--Illinois, for instance, or California, or New YOrk, has to find a way to win votes from a wider spectrum of political philosophies. That is why I think Senators--and Presidents, aren't really free to speak their minds--unless they are so confident that their voters will stay with them come hell or high water. Ted Kenndy comes to mind. But he was a once in a lifetime politician.

Hopefully, we will see more "Profiles in Courage" as we go through this latest political crisis.

In the world of reality it says that the only way this new Senator can be seated "right away is that the state of MASS. must violate its own laws to do this before the rules of the state says he can be seated...how soon we forget that not long ago all was needed was Ms Snow's vote..again one Republican...am "I" wrong???...

But, it gets even better for the PURE conservative republicns or have you not heard now they are giving out warnings that if you want to loose, have our president come campaing for you(smile)NOw who is being over booked to help them save their seat...Sarah Palin.LOOOOOOOOOOOL

I wonder how soon they will be proving that our presidnet should not be just picked off member of his administration by member...Van Jones who came up with the money for the clunker program and not the one person who has had to leave even before getting into the national security game because a Terrorist' got into the country on a Bush administration visa...

I am sure that the PURE American party(the new political party in America) are upset that they can not blame that person who tweeterred is terrorist threat to blow up an air port in england on our president...they only banned him for the air port...now I don't have to tell you what color he was...

the Slales may not be so lucky because a person of dark skin also got into the Whitehouse...but, I know it is going to play a major role in showing how our president has placed this country at harms way by those who back him...BUT, WHO CARES ABOUT ANY OF THIS...we are stuck on a health care reform bill with not one reform in it aren't we???????????????????? Smile!!!!!!!!!!!!those teabaggers have moved on to Palin for president in 2012 and on't send any money to the Whitehouse to help Haiti says the PURE really true Americans who listen to rush..........JUST THINK THAT AMERICA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY FALLING FOR ALL OF THIS BULL **** OF THE TEABAGGERS AND BIRTHERS, BUT THEY ARE GETTING CANDIDATEs TO D.C. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

opinion or truth?(smile)

We keep on proving that it is just fine to go be the best Congress ath the lobby money can buy...therefore I will repeat once again, did the person you sent to D.C. to represent you and your family do this in fact have they ever done this in the first place...

I would be ashamed to be a member of a party with 60 votes saying and admiting taht they can not do any thing usles they get ONE members of the party that hs been sent to work against them to come and do what they can't do...ONE REPUBLICAN VOTE IS MORE POWERFUL THAN 60 VOTES...NO WONDER THE REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO NOTHING BUT SAY NO AND WIN...

HELL DIDN'T I HEAR THE DEMOCRATS SAY NOT TORTURE...WE NEED JOBS, WE NEED CLEAN AIR WHEN THOSE JOBS WERE SENT TO CHINA SO THEY DID NOT HAVE TO BUILD FACTORYS TO PROTECT THE AIR...LIKE WE DO NOT BREATH THE SAME AIR AS CHINA AND EVERY PLACE ON THIS PLANET...OH AND BY THE WAY THE MOST VALUABLE THING IN THE MIDDLE-EAST IS THEIR RELIGION AND WATER...

WHAT ARE WE SAYING TODAY THAT WE WERE NOT SAYING LAST YEAR...THE YEARS BEFORE THIS...PALIN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012 AND MAYBE BY THEN aMERICA WILL BE ABLE TO AT LEAST KNOW THERE IS ANOTHER POLITICAL PARTY IN THIS COUNTRY...God Bless America, because it needs all of the help it can get...

Well, as you should know by now Irma is going to be the odd man out(smile)

There exist a brand new(old) political party in America for the 2010 and 2012 elections and a brand new political ideology. example, how do one fight this kind of campaign, LETS SAY UNITY...yesterday it was Brown and his goiong to D.C. to play basketball with the presidnet...(I do admit I was suprised hearing this and yet I was not suprised)

If you like you can check this out in full on your computers about at the end of the Dylan Radigan program on MSNBC...1pm in Ca.

A pro wresrtler has an ad out about he is going to form a brand new WHITE ONLY pro basketball team...only those with both Carcasian mother and father need apply and it gets much worst...ME "i" HAVE ALREADY FACED THE FACT THAT THE TEABAGGERS ARE A NEW POLITICL PARTY OUT TO TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK...and Sarah Palin for president in 2012...

oh, it seems that that bright idea to change campaign financing is dead in the water because it is not going to even reach court...

I just noticed that Siebra, has just posted about a White supremist group here in Calif. have thrown their hat in the ring to get more PURE candidates to run in 2010...

I have not read it yet, but "I" did get a kick out of just how we as a country wait around for someone else to do something...well, these people are doing something...(smile) so lets just sit back and continue to not watch out president's back as the democrats are suppose to do this...or is this the Congress that our president asked us to help bring our government out of the hands of big business...CHECK OUT HOW MUCH LOBBY MONEY YOU R OWN STATE'S PEPRESENTATIVES IN d.c.HAVE RECIEVED SINCE THE HEALTH CARE reORM BILL CAME BEFORE THEM...

I DARE YOU TO DO THIS....(SMILE)
