Sunday (1/31/2010) I caught a train and traveled into New York City (often referred to as "the city" by folks living in the Northeast). I went mainly to hang out with friends. We all went to see Tyler Perry's new live stage play - "Madea's Big Happy Family."
Now. I'm not a big fan of the Madea character, although I do love the way she plants her feet on what she really believes in.
I haven't seen all of Tyler Perry's live stage plays. Actually, I've only seen three of them: "Marriage Counselor," "Madea Goes To Jail" and "Madea's Big Happy Family." Of the three, "Madea's Big Happy Family" is my favorite. Not sure when Tyler Perry wrote "Madea's Big Happy Family." What he did say at the end of the play was that he wrote the play in honor of his late mother.
The singing in this play - phew! The guy who played the mentally challenged character can sing his butt off!! That man knows how to work with notes. I haven't heard anyone sing with that much respect for sound, silence and music in many, many, many years! I think the cast is blessed to have him onboard.
But the scene where the mother is singing later in the play. I will never forget that scene. I don't want to give the play away for people who haven't seen it. If that song ever comes out on a CD, I'm getting it!
I know there are people who aren't particularly fond of Tyler Perry's plays or TV shows. I appreciate the messages that he gets across in his plays and in his movies. He is a long long way from where he started out from. Anyone who follows their dreams -- and -- achieves them because they motivate themselves when others might be telling them (with statistics, quotes, etc.) all the reasons why they should stop trying to realize their dreams until their dreams come true.
Because they exercise courage, faith, allow themselves to be inspired by others and from within and because they TAKE ACTION (do A LOT more than just dream and plan and think and daydream and talk about what it is they want to do). They do what it takes to realize or to manifest their deepest dreams.
I respect that. It might well be one of the greatest blessings I came away with from attending "Madea's Big Happy Family" at New York City's Madison Square Garden Theatre. The place was packed!!! Seeing Tyler Perry realize his dream inspired/inspires me to continue to realize more and more of my writer dreams!!!
Who has inspired you recently? Who are you an inspiration to?
