'CIVILITY REQUIRES RELEARNING HOW TO DISAGREE WITHOUT BEING DISAGREEABLE." President Obama, Feb 4, 2010 (641 hits)

Speaking Thursday morning at the National Prayer Breakfast, a conciliatory President Barack Obama urged attendees to bypass grievances in their efforts to push forward morally and socially responsible policy.

But at the same time, he made it clear that there are some positions that lie outside that realm of civil discourse, such as birther conspiracies and the targeting of gays and lesbians.

"Civility also requires relearning how to disagree without being disagreeable," Obama declared before a standing-room-only crowd. "[C]ivility is not a sign of weakness. Now I am the first to confess I am not always right. Michelle will testify to that. But surely, you can question my policies without questioning my faith. Or for that matter, my citizenship."

I just Love President Obama--- HE HAS THE BEST SENSE OF HUMOR ---- That's what I loved about the late President Reagan and President Bush. They knew how to get a laugh out of you.

The civility stump he gave to the group sounds like a blog I did back in 2008 when things were just getting out of hand with the campaigns. He's just one likeable guy all the way round. God bless him and keep him safe in the days ahead!

Hello to All,

I voted for President Obama, so that should tell you where he stands with me. However, I have a question for Black Americans since most you all seem to think that life with President Obama will not end, so here is my question.

What will happen for Black Americans after President Obama must leave office? Secondly, what do you suppose Black Americans needs mostly now and for all times to come, if it were not the desire to be a free and sovereign people that we would have our hands on the helm of our own destiny?

Even the one time ignorant children of Israel came to want to be sovereign and free and they cried out to God and God help them, am I right.

So, am I wrong to want Black Americans who are a new breed or race of people that has emerged out of the ashes of slavery to be sovereign and free people on a portion of this continent to pursue life, liberty and prosperity in our own way? Could Bishop TD Jakes say that I am wrong? Could President Obama say that I am wrong? So, who then among you could say that I am wrong?

You all run from me because you know deep in your hearts of conscience that I am right.

Hence, what is (civility) for Black Americans than wanting to become a sovereign people?

Tell me what you think.

Right, Clark:

One thing that continually amazes me is how he keeps steadfastly to his course of civil and respectful engagement despite the fact that he is on the receiving end of some of the most vicious lies and slanders I have seen in politics. The guy must have nerves of steel. This is one reason why I admire him so much.

Right! That is why Sister Irma is so in love with MSNBC Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow because they point out all this crap laid on the President.

Someone has to do it!!!

Hello to All,

What I am certain of and you all will soon be as well is that President Obama will not be able to solve the problems of White America.
Needless to say, he, President Obama cannot do anything for Black Americans as well.

You Negroes will come to see that what I am saying is true.

Harry,

President Baraka Hussein Obama already has solved the 'problems' of America. In one year He is destroying the clan and tribal tendencies of preObama America and replacing them with the real Definition of SecularDemocracy-

He is replacing silliness and foolishness with Intelligence...

He is replacing blackthis, whitethis with AmericanThis.

Who cares if an idiot wants to stay tribal? I have learned preObama for almost 50 years, that the silly and foolish are Losers.

I am still patient enough to know that 2 years, 11 months, 15 days more of President Baraka Hussein Obama will make, even me, change my name to Hussein.

Hello Robert and Clark,

You all are no different then the common people whose president has been elected. For instance, President Roosevelt changed the direct of the country from the previous president. President Clinton changed the direction of the country from the previous president. Likewise, President Obama said he would change the direction of the country from the previous president, George Bush.

Consequentially what you all are saying is nothing more than hype that you all will get over when Obama must leave office. You all are as children, mentally speaking that hollers when your team makes a touchdown. However, we all know that the game must come to an end and a new game begins. Am I making any sense?

However, what is most important is that Black Americans will have a permanent change to their lives regardless to who is in the White House. Black Americans will become a sovereign people or have complete independence on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to pursue life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in our own way. What I have just said is what you all should want as well for yourselves, your children and grandchildren as well as Black Americans as a whole. Does that make any sense to any of you?

Tell me what you think.

Obama's election means Obama is paving the way for all men of color to run for president. It is sad how many of us are fighting this man, because we don’t want change. Obama is catching straight up hell from the right-wing people.

Obama has the whole world watching him and they see a black man trying to bring about a CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. The images America has presented to the world about a black man has all been negative. The world sees an intelligent black man not rapping or dancing or playing sport but who actually wants to bring about a change in America's current condition. Look pass the Obama color and really listen to him. Put aside your prejudices against yourself and just listen to Obama.

The man is confident in himself and he not showing signs of arrogance. Obama has the same affect on people that MLK and Farrakhan does. Look how Obama said it is time for a change. The wickedly wise, fear what Obama is saying, they do not want a change. It is right-wings speaking out against this man on televison and the radio. The ignorant don’t want change!!!

It is sad how people claim to be believers in God and is against Obama. Obama is making away for ALL races and creed of man to rule. They rather waste their time trying to find OLD in the NEW.

ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE!!!

Siebra Muhammad
Hello Siebra,

Let me begin by saying that I voted for Obama, okay.

Now let me tell you this. Firstly, no Black Americans should not want to be president of the United States of America over God offer to be a sovereign people on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country. Mr. Barack Obama would have made a fine president for Black Americans, we are deserving of it to have been slaves, and now we are sovereign on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country. When White America bought Africans and bred with them to make us, Black Americans inadvertently to White America when God come to redeem us a portion of this continent will be provided us for our sovereignty.

Secondly, we should desire to have a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders and this is why. Black Americans as an entire people needs to brave and overcome the natural obstacles of nature to be a successful people. We, as a people cannot get this success and experience by a Black person being president of the United States.

In other words, the Hebrew people braved the natural obstacles in the desert even though only two survive because the rest were too well anchored in the ways of the Egyptian that they could not change. The same as most of you Negroes are anchored in the ways of White America. All the Hebrew people needed to feel the same aura since no one person could ever rise of both the plight and degradation of his people. If Moses could have ascended to the throne of Egypt, it still would not have done his people in a good, since no person could rise above the plight and degradation of his people. In other words, if the Hebrew people are ignorant, unemployed do not have adequate healthcare, a vast percentage of his people is incarcerated, then he Moses is incarcerated as well. But, when the experience of sovereignty is lacking you could never get it when one, two, three or four Black men are elected to the presidency of the United States. The experience and feeling that I am talking about has to come to all of us at one time from the ground floor. Do you understand what I am saying? The aura that I am speaking of resonates throughout all of White American people since they were the ones that fought England for their independence. In other words, this feeling that I’m talking about were in White American women sitting nervously in their homes, the children and those that could not fight hoping and praying that General George Washington be successful.

For the most part, our enslaved ancestors did not have this same feeling. However, the feeling that our enslaved ancestors had but differently was when the Union won the Civil War. The Union winning the Civil War our enslaved ancestors interpreted this event as no more plantation and cotton picking. They were free from plantation slavery but they were not sovereign yet. Sovereignty would come to their descendents over 800 years later. Even though things were still terribly bad it was better than slavery and that is why they referred to President Lincoln as Father Lincoln. They saw President Lincoln greater than they saw Jesus.

So, my point is all about interpreting feelings and aura. The feelings we need cannot come from a Black president. We must all gain it together.

Suppose Moses had assented to the throne what would that have done for his people who had become completely ignorant based on 400 years of bondage and slavery? It would have done the Hebrew people nothing. They needed to the struggle together to experience what sovereignty is, because Moses is not an Egyptian in Egypt must be left in, the hands of the Egyptian people while Moses and the Hebrew people seek a homeland for themselves, am I right.

Siebra, let me end by giving you this example. You could take a White teenage boy and a Black teenage boy from their perspective environment out of the one of the best school in their county. Take both of these boys to the tomb of President George Washington and if there were an instrument to monitor their feelings, each would feel differently about President George Washington. The White teenager would identify with Washington differently from the Black teenage. You know that I am right.

Tell me how the White teenager would identify with Washington as opposed to how the Black teenager would.

Tell me what you think.

Hello Siebra,

Well, instead of telling me to lay down and rest myself why don’t you tell me why a Black American should aspire to be president of White America and not want himself and his people to be sovereign nation on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders to pursue life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in our own way?

Was not this ideal sort of what Elijah had in mind? So, why are you telling me as a follower of Elijah Muhammad to lie down and rest myself?

Tell me what you think.
