Salutations to all guests and friends! This unique issue of A Little Southern News will aid in the celebration of Women History Month. I hope you'll learn a little about women, their history, courage, accomplishments and also have a smile or two as your read a few selective stories of women from different nationalities and cultures. In addition, you'll be with traveling in a most perculiar way, you'll be reading of events happening in Memphis in or surrounding areas--even learn of a remarkable women in historees you never heard of. It's all ready for you to take your eye's swoop, but of course you know me, I am a Woman, Who am I? March 12-14, 2010
AGRICENTER
MEMPHIS, TN
iF ya'll can member we went here last year, so it's just as big again this year! Bring yo' dollars and cents and rack up ladies! They'll have every thang a Little Southern Gal would like. From A to Z. Zippers yah! Ya'll be able to find them too! This show is held every year at the Arigcenter International. Visited by thousands of women and you men, Ya'll can shop til you drop somethang. This year the show is celebratin some 2o years! That's a young woman in my book. I visited last year and had a most bestist thime. Look around if you anin't got no money, but thar is an admission price. Adults pay $9 at the door and yo' chillens ages 6-12 pays $5. Them thar babies gits in free! Ya'll can ask Sojourner....

Ya'll can't leave until ya'll visit the U OF M speciality of Amnesty International Events. All week long there'll be plenty for every woman/ or man to see and hear! As part of of Women's History Month the University will sponsor a series of activities for Women Rights Awareness week.
Monday: March 23
Take a look at:
IRON JAWED ANGELS
A film about women fightin for theys right to vote. The film starts at 5 p.m. and stars a woman named Hilary Swank. This presentation is from HBO Films and demontrates how women in America fought to gain their rights. You'll learn a lot hear --I'm show you will. Take yo' seat at Johnson Hall Auditorium and watch some Iron Jaws! Grrrrwh! They's biting off theys place in women historees!
A few notable women in historees included these Iron Jaws of women:
Barbara Ayrton, General Flora Drummond, Daisy Dugdale, Christabel Panhurst and Emmeline Pethick Lawrence just to name a few!

"HINDRED BUT NOT SILENCED"
Trott yo' selves up to the Panhellenic Building Room, 101 and see a letter writin' campaign on behalf of Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi, along wit some other fine ladies speaking out for women's rights and human rights too! Brang you some letter writing paper....I'm show they'll appreciate yo' participation! If you is hindred, don't be silenced,...you can rite bout that! Tell them you read about it in A Little Southern News. I'm show they won't ask what that's meanings ... Shucks, I only know a little news! Git on down thar betwix 1-7 p.m. That's plenty of thime to write somethang! FYI: Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote: Uncle Tom's Cabin.

THE FGM DEBATE"
If they allows you to spend the night...you can stay in that same Panhellenic Building, but goES on over to theys Ballroom to hear a panel discussion moderated by Dr. David Richards on the topic of Female Gential Multilation. Oooh! sounds like dat might hurt! Anyhow, He'll be discussing dat thar topic. Women have a rite to know bout thangs like dat!
"One day, I'm gone have long FGM talk with dat Dr. David Richards...I bleeve I'm gonna hav'too wait though." Don't thank I can talk bout thangs like dat just yet...I reckon..."
March 26: Thursday
"THE EFFECTS OF VIOLENCE"
Since dar's plenty of dis stuff still around against woman ya'll roll up ya'll fists and stump on down to the Student Plaza to discuss the effects of domestic violence on women and the community. This is sure to be a real dose of reality of how's women have suffered abusive situations throughout historee and today! Deborah Club, Executive Director of The Memphis Area Women's Council will be the host speaker. Stay 'til the end cause ya'll gits to light candles and take a moment of silence for victims of domestic violence. That's show to be a moving passage of women, children and families.
Try to git on over-n-celebrate with Women's Historees! Looks like an interesting turn in learning about Women Folks!
