When Funds are Low – Teachers Can Turn to DonorsChoose.org (166 hits)

As we continue to inspect the education system in America, one problem crops up continuously. Education funding for public schools has been a long-time bane of every district and administration, and has been an ongoing hindrance to the quality of education our public school students receive.

Think about your child’s school. How often do you get memos requesting tissues, pencils, markers, crayons, glue or other classroom accessories? The same goes for extracurricular activities. Many times, a student wants to get involved in a club or group, like playing a musical instrument in the school band or taking part in a sport, but their parents can’t afford to pay the fees for uniforms, instruments, tools or trips. Sometimes schools can’t even afford to provide quality literature for students to read or tools to teach math such as flash cards.

Thanks to organizations like DonorsChoose.org, donors can financially support their choice of “projects”. Teachers and school staff post their needs on the site, and members can choose the amount they want to donate, as little as $1, to any particular post. Another option is to purchase a “Giving Card”, that goes to a site recipient for them to apply to their choice of project. The card is tax deductible and is a great way for local businesses to support their school.

Support your local school or a project you see on the site that you believe will help our kids have a more fulfilling education. If every parent in America gave $1, think of the benefit to our kids’ education!
