It occured to me the other day that I need to have something in my home to commemorate the election of our first African-American President Barack Hussein Obama. I have a t-shirt and a few hats, plan on buying his books this spring and already have saved the Essence and Ebony Magazines with him and Michelle, but I needed something substantial.
A friend of mine suggested a website and I found something...an Obama clock bearing his photo from Election Night. It's beautiful and the clock was half price. I also found Obama mugs. So I placed my order.
They arrived last week and I couldn't be more pleased. It proudly hangs in my kitchen because that wall clock is out of commission. I mentioned that I wrtite a blog and people read it. So he is making this offer to people who read my blog: "Go to
www.BFGcollections.com. Use promo code: QueenMarsha and get 15% off your order. This offer is good until December 31, 2010."
Getting back to my initial point, history will be kind to President Obama because of all the mess left by the previous administration and the things he's done to hold this country together. As the first African-American President of the United States, he has re-established the United States as a power in the world. President Obama has focused on environmental issues, the war, going green, banking, jobs, unemployment, housing, health care and returning to basic values. The Nobel Peace Prize winner has done that and more despite the "ugliness" that has surfaced in our country regarding race and politics. He has done it with a lot of grace and class.
Can't say the same thing for most Americans. How we will be remembered during this time in our country's history? Well, history won't be so kind to us. It's a new millenium and we are still dealing with racial issues. When will we ever learn?
