"The Daily Show" returned last night and Jon Stewart didn't hold back, ripping the potentially violent undertones of the conservatives' reaction to the passing of health care reform.
Stewart had plenty to say about the Palins, Limbaughs, and Boehners of the world, who appeared to be inciting the violence against Democratic congressmen. Stewart acknowledged that Palin had directly responded to the connection, making it clear her call to "reload" was meant to inspire political action, not violence.
John Stewart: "Sarah Palin has a dream...and in that dream, you have a gun."
Correspondent John Oliver explained that it was just a metaphor. Like when he said "patriots are obliged to castrate and skullf--k every baby killer who voted for this bill" – this is just a metaphor for grassroots campaign.
Correspondent Wyatt Cenac, who favored the health care bill was ready to raise his fist in defiance. “Bring it on,” he said. “Let’s f***ing do this. I’m kinda sick of their sh*t. We have guns too.”
Correspondent Aasif Mandvi had the perfect remedy to this culture war. “A two state solution,” he said, “using the successful model that solved the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”
He divided the United States into two separate nations: “The Socialists” and “The Patriots”. The state of Iowa was intentionally left out of this new model for the two United States because, Mandvi said, “They ruined my NCAA Tournament bracket.”
