NOTICE: POSTED--NO SATURDAY DELIVERY
[Pictured: The Little Trio!--"Is there no Saturday's letter in your bag for me? " ]
The United States Postal Service is in days of waiting to decide if the nation’s letter carriers will continue to deliver mail on Saturdays. Future plans may decide beginning the first half of next year to discontinue mail delivery to only 5 days a week. The postal service said that cutting back on Saturdays would save about $3.1 billion dollars the first year and as much as $5.2 billion by 2020. The Postal Regulatory Commission estimates the annual savings would be $1.9 billion. The Saturday delivery was selected because it is lightest mail volume day of the week and that more than 1/3 of businesses are closed on Saturday. Congress will have to approve any changes and will require a 6 months notice before taking on the closings of Saturday deliveries..
Mail volume has dropped from a peak of 213 billion pieces since 2006 to 177 billion last year. The decrease of mail pieces may be due to increase usuages of e-mail, internet and phone communication devices such as Twitter and Text Messages.
"I don't like gadets!" Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!...Mr. Post O..'O' Man..!
“Well, I’ll still write Love Letters…It’s that postage stamp that’ll gonna cost me.”
