Will Bilingualism or multilingualism complicate a Homeland for Black Americans ? (126 hits)

Areas are considered bilingual if more than one language is spoken by a significant proportion of the population. In some countries --Belgium, for example, or Switzerland--there is more than one official language. In United States, only one language may have implicit or official government sanction, also others are spoken. There should be a national language for Black Americans once in Africa which should be the language in which instruction, commercial transactions, and government business takes place. Language helps promote unity and solidarity. Notice that Mexicans that come to this country, maintain their spanish language heritage. While they are with themselves, they speak spanish, but when blacks or whites come around, they can speak English.

In linguistically complex sub Saharan Africa, nearly all countries have selected a European tongue--usually that of their former colonial governors--as an official language. There are some Black Americans that will want us to change our national language from English. Arguments include Swahili or various versions of Arabic. This is an issue that will be debated in Africa. My views in that gradually, we want to move away from English as our National language once established in Africa. We will still have to use English is dealing with the global world in business but as a language for our people.....us black Americans........We Deserve our OWN.
