Hey Students: Get Schooled. (130 hits)

Are you a middle school, high school or college student? If so, you need to know that you’re at the mercy of the voting public when it comes to your education options. As the federal government attempts to move forward with new education reform plans, budget cuts and mismanaged school funding is threatening your ability to get the most out of your education.

So? What’s a kid to do when all the power seems to be in the hands of everyone else, but the end result is about your potential? Get Schooled is an informative website for kids to provide you with the news headlines related to US education and offers a Student’s Bill of Rights on the home page that help you to understand that the power over your education is in your hands.

Grab the Controls

Take charge of your education and go to the Get Schooled website. Read the Student’s Bill of Rights and empower yourself with education facts like:

• By 2016, more than half of all new jobs will require more than a high school diploma.

• Two similar classrooms at the start of the year will show as much as a 10% difference in student achievement at the end of the year, depending on the teacher.

• A group of students in Los Angeles actually protested until their schools provided them the classes they need to get ahead?

The site offers information and tools about finishing school if you’ve dropped out, getting scholarships, finding a career and how you can get involved in reforming your school system.

It’s your Future – So Step Up

You have the power and the information you need to make your education fit your goals. Use sources like Get Schooled to keep up on education news and attend school budget meetings so you can see what’s really going on in your school. Join student groups or start one to empower your fellow students to build a better education for you all.
