The Queen's Chair: Happy (Early) Mother's Day (210 hits)

Mother's Day is three days away. Have you purchased or made your gift, yet? Are you serving mom breakfast in bed? At this time of the year, Hallmark sells over 160 million cards a year. That averages to about 1.7 million cards a piece for mothers. Most children buy their moms carnations. A red one: if she is alive and a white one: if she is deceased.

Recently, two dear friends of mine lost their moms on the same day. My male college friend's mom passed away after a pacemaker failed to keep her heart beating. She was in her late 80s. The other friend, who had just retired, lost her mom who peacefully passed away in her sleep. My thoughts, prayers, and love still go out to them.

As a mom, I enjoy spending time with my growing family. Our tradition is to go to our favorite neighborhood restaurant, The Winfield Grill, where the staff knows us and have watch the girls grow up literally before their eyes. They remember me from my first-Mother-to be-Day, when I was trying to figure out if I was having a boy or a girl. My bowling teammates called this one immediately. They all said "girl."

As the girls grew older, I enjoyed all the "homemade" mommy gifts (like flower pots, photo collages, plaques..etc) and still have many of them in my house, on the wall, or in my bedroom. I LOVE this stuff.
I don't really care about the material stuff associated with the Hallmark holiday, but just enjoy the time with them because things will change soon enough as they get even older.
What I'm really trying to say is if your mom is still living, spend time with her. You'll cherish those memories. I never really "got" my mom, until I became one and kinda walked in her shoes. She was to serious when I was kid. I never saw her "funny" side. My daughters's have seen that of me and more.
If you and your mom don't have a good relationship, put aside your differences this coming Sunday. Grudges solve nothing. I know two people right now who wish their moms were here. Remember, time waits for no one.
By the way, Happy Mother's Day.

Marsha:

Thanks for asking. It was released from the printer yesterday!!! I should receive it in my hands within days. Then I will be blogging about it right here!

My intention is to offer a copy free of charge to people on this site who are sincerely interested in reading it. And I would love for you to read it--and if you like it, to wirte a review I can post on my website.

I have your LOVE BEGINS WITH TRUTH--but I have to wait till June and the school year is done before I can do any substantial fiction reading. But I can tell you that I am seriously looking forward to it!!!

PEACE,
Rich
