With Mother’s day almost here, I began to think about different Mother’s in the Bible.
Hannah, who whas barren, worshipped until God opened her womb. She gave up her son for the Kingdom. God rewarded her with 5 more.
Naomi, who lost her sons without having grandchildren, treated Ruth as her own daughter and received restoration of her sons through Obed.
Rizpah, who could do nothing more for her sons, stood guard over their dead bodies and swatted away the birds who were trying to defile their bodies.
The woman who was insulted by Jesus, when he told her that it was not good to give the children’s bread to the dogs. Unfazed by it, she worshipped him and got the healing for her daughter she sought. She had come to far to turn back empty handed.
Sarai and Elizabeth carrying children in their bodies and then raising those children in the last part of their life, because it ain’t over until GOD says it’s over.
Mary, who at a young age, was chosen to carry Jesus.
These are extrodinary women. But so is every women who gives birth and steps up to the plate to raise children. Even when it was not in your immediate plans or when your children go a different way than what you imagined. The love, care and concern that God endows all of us with becomes an endless source that our babies depend on…no matter what. Happy Mother’s Day!
